My newest ebook novella is out now from Kobo, Barnes & Noble, Kindle and others.

A village magician embarks on a journey to save a young man from a magical affliction.

Includes river voyages, danger in the capital city, fear in the forest, and a mysterious older mage, among other excitements.

The cover is based on a licensed image from iStock by Tithi Luadthong (@grandfailure on iStock), a wonderful artist.

A while ago, on another social media site, someone posted a question along the lines:

What books might provide inspiration for playing a wizard in D&D?

My (long-ish) answer was:

Part of the problem with finding stories which really fit the mold of D&D wizards is that even the source material that inspired D&D doesn’t perfectly fit how D&D magic works. And even the D&D fantasy novels themselves often gloss over how magic works in various editions.

Haven't looked through it yet, but saw a video where someone pointed out this little system for gaining crafting resources from creatures:

Seemed like it might potentially be useful in this context.

I feel vaguely similarly about the 3.x D&D variant magic Incantations rules.

Sometimes I long for a system of rules that covers everything from researching a new spell to creating magic items under a single unified system.

But time I attempt to cobble one together it ends up getting impractically complicated.

O'RLY GUIDE to Basic Spellcraft for Fantasy Settings

Will probably get some modifications, but this is sort of the introductory spells list I intended to go with the Ancient Red Wyrm game.
Think I'll probably use it for other OSR/NSR type D&D-adjacent games as well.
