TIL #FlamingCliffs isn’t just a DCS module. It’s a real place.

Located in central #Mongolia, Flaming Cliffs or #Bayanzag is a geologic feature named for the deep red colour they reflect from the setting sun. The sandstone cliffs were once part of an ancient seabed which existed 160-170 MYA. #geology

#Sunset at #FlamingCliffs, #Mongolia

There's a spot in the #GobiDesert where sunset briefly casts light on the face of these cliffs. On the day of my visit it was cloudy and it appeared that I was out of luck. But as there was a fleeting moment where the sun broke through. I have tweeked the brightness-contrast to make the shot more attractive to me.
