I captured this photo in the narrow alleys of Harar, Ethiopia, in 2018. It had been raining, but suddenly, the early evening sun broke through the clouds, bathing everything in a golden hue. The trio of women, captured mid-turn, contributed to an atmosphere of the unexpected—a feeling as if there was something more than just sunlight lingering above.

Drove a long way off road to see these ancient carved stones. They are presumed to be tributes to nomad leaders. The site has several stones of differing shapes.

I was surprised to find that the Gobi Desert isn't just sand dunes and camels. Upon arrival here it rained buckets for a few days before clearing. The vastness creates a feeling of soul-searching isolation and calm.

There's a spot in the #GobiDesert where sunset briefly casts light on the face of these cliffs. On the day of my visit it was cloudy and it appeared that I was out of luck. But as there was a fleeting moment where the sun broke through. I have tweeked the brightness-contrast to make the shot more attractive to me.

街頭音樂 (Street Music)

Concerts and especially festivals are probably the best way to enjoy an emotional roller-coaster with others. (Outside romantic contexts, of course!) Playing a concert, visiting a concert, dancing at a festival were definitely among the most joyful and intense moments of my life. Naturally, I didn't take any photos then.

But there is a photo from this evening in Hanoi last November! A few hundred people gathered in the street to listen to what I assume was a random street band. The crowd, the heat of the night, a sense of youth and adventure all came together to create something magical, and the singer and his band knew well what to do with the tension in the air.

(I'm happy how the snapshot captures the moment, as I was too busy to enjoy myself to play a lot with finding the perfect angle and moment. Slight cinematic editing.)

A self portrait, made during the golden quarter-hour on the top of a high-rise in February 2021. (You can tell from my pandemic hairstyle ;)) I like how the evening sun interacts with the shiny basalt.

(Minor edits, I added some warmth, reduced saturation a bit as usual, and pulled up the blacks a lot.)

Agrigento is an expansive well-preserved Roman archaeological site in #Sicily. The site had been occupied for over three hundred years before the Romans settled there and named it Agrigentum. This Greek temple became the Temple of Juno (Guinone) in #Roman times.
