Periodic PSA for the inattentive folks in the back:

I vet everyone who follows me. If I don't like what I see when I look at your profile, I don't accept the request.

Things I don't like:

* No profile.

* Short history in the fediverse.

* No posts of your own.

* Looking like you're trying to extract something from me.

Specifically, when an account that is evidently linked to a business, I wonder what their deal is.

Are they following people as some sort of marketing tactic?

I don't like being used this way.

So I reject the request.

If they come again with another request, guess what? They get blocked.

Let me put it simply: abusing follow requests is not a costless proposition.

I've just blocked a company for this. I *might* have been interested in their products, but now I won't have the opportunity to show interests, because they are blocked.

I'll just buy my shit somewhere else.

I have taken the option of vetting all follow requests. Too many bad experiences from fake accounts on Instagram, I guess. It's been useful here. Some obvious bots. But I HATE it when there's a newish account that you can't TELL for certain if it's a legit noob or a bot. Had one sitting untouched in my notification for about a week now. Pretty sure that it's a bit, but not TOTALLY certain, so they exist in nondeterministic limbo.

Also is there a way to disable all sounds in #HajKey? I tried turning the master volume all the way down but it still plays the alert and it hijacks my audio every single time :(

@MsDropbear42@firefish.social About 30' ago, @firefish.social finally seemed happy about me sending the #account #migrate instruction, sans-error message. Yet, afaict, no change seems to have happened to my @MsDropbear42@firefish.social account itself, in that i can continue to log-in to it, peruse it, make toots therein etc.

Otoh, something did happen; my destination account, @MsDropbear42@firefish.lgbt, almost immediately received a handful of #FollowRequests from peeps on my older account.

In #Mastodon the instructions caution users that the migration can take hours or days, but iirc, even so, the migrated account immediately adopts a fundamental UI change, providing the departing user access only to a few sections in Settings from that point. Certainly atm no radical access / appearance change has happened for me in @MsDropbear42@firefish.social

"If you see "follow request sent" [*] when you try to follow someone, and they don't have a padlock 🔒 on their profile page, then it's likely that the follow didn't work properly.

If a follow doesn't work properly, try unfollowing them (or cancel the follow request), wait a bit, then click "follow" again."

Just turned follow requests on because I keep getting a bunch of followers with no profile. I'm sure you're nice folks who just didn't get around to filling in their profile yet but please do. Does mastodon force some follows into pending "follow requests"?

I want to #accept #followrequests but I don't see a button for it. #mastodonhelp 🤔

If you have a Mastodon account and follow someone, the follow button will sometimes display a "Follow request sent" message.

Usually this is because the other account has follow approval switched on, which means its owner will manually decide whether to accept your follow request. This kind of account has a padlock 🔒 icon next to it on its profile page.

However... Mastodon also displays this "Follow request sent" message if something has gone wrong with the follow, especially if you're trying to follow someone on a non-Mastodon server.

Partially broken federation often causes Mastodon to display this message, for some reason.
