Just now from K6AQ, "FreeDV 2.2.1 has been released, containing bugfixes for issues discovered since the release of 2.2.0 along with a change to ensure continued operation of the FlexRadio integration." github.com/drowe67/freedv-gui/

#RADE in #FreeDV.
Ich selbst habe auch schon mit neuronalen Codecs experimentiert und diese zur Sprachübertragung eingesetzt:

I’ve been attempting to get the #freedv AppImage for #flexradio running on the RPi4 I use as my Allstar Node. I couldn’t get it to decode.

Managed to get it running on my #uconsole and received ON4LX operating on #qo100.

Spoiler: there is a firewall on the Allstar Node.

Yet another lovely #qso with Helmut dc6ny in Bavaria

He hit SNR 7 with his home brew trx and 80 cm dish!

Had a short initial foray into #FreeDV yesterday- I only have a very low power antenna for 40m in the loft, so didn’t succeed with transmitting but the audio quality (on moderately high SNR signals) is impressive! The upper HF bands were empty, nobody listening, so didn’t try transmitting with moderate power there.

Wonder what the “it’s not real radio” blowhards will make of it? ;)

One more attempt at #FreeDV tomorrow then I give up.

I got a brief blast of decoded audio on 60m this afternoon, but then the Linux laptop decided to unilaterally change the audio settings.
I think the FreeDV program is sound, but there seems to be something weird going on between my TS590s and the laptop.

It doesn't help that there's not a lot of activity to test the set up with

I think a #HamRadio project for the new year will be getting into #FreeDV. Thanks to evoham.com for beginner guides, and Steve Stroh @n8gnj for the continually interesting Zero Retries newsletter (and pointing out EvoHam) - Amateur Radio for the 21st Century, not the old legacy stuff from the 1950s! (Although I do hope to do some of that too…)

I'm looking at FreeDV as something new to try in #AmateurRadio.
I'm waiting for a USB headset because I currently haven't got a way of getting the audio out of the laptop while FreeDV is running.
I seem to have got the rig control running OK, and I think I'm capturing signals (but activity is limited)

It looks promising, although as with all digimodes the number of users will be a limiting factor.

Wonder how I can do effective snooping on bluetooth serial text communication.

The #wireshark does not seem to show device mac address of a remote device, so impossible to filter.

#btmon partial success.

I want to see on the wire / in the air what #wsjtx does successfull over /dev/rfcommX and compare to what fails from #FreeDV

#hamradio motivation ...

Not that I am fond microsoft github, but would like to see /dev/rfcomm* serial usb over bluetooth devices in #FreeDV

They just work in #wsjtx

Today first time 2 way voice qso on #freedv on #qo100 10489.640

gm0nrt Bill in Aberdeen had sometimes perfect audio.

Motivates me to reinstall bigger rf power amplifier, current transmit is only good for #ft8 and #ft4

Some initial thoughts about #FreeDV

Very interesting technology. I will be conducting further QSOs using it and I think given my particular circumstances with a poor antenna and restricted output power, it will prove very useful.

I also wonder if, with the amount of noise and QRM we have to contend with, we will see more people using modes like it.

Just had my first #FreeDV QSO with a station in Aberdeen. Rig was outputting about 12w and I was apparently very readable.

The other station was mostly fully audible with minimal to no packet loss. At times it was like conversing over a digital voice mode like DMR.

#FreeDV has been installed and after a bit of faff getting CAT control working, I've already received very garbled, but definitely digital voice.

Really impressed by FreeDV RADE v1 audio quality on HF with low power.

Digital Voice Transmission - FreeDV

"Radio Autoencoder (RADE) technology is a new approach to sending speech over HF radio. It combines Machine Learning (ML) with classical DSP to send high quality speech over HF radio at SNRs as low as -2dB. The speech signal has an audio bandwidth of 8kHz, but the RADE V1 signal requires just 1500Hz of RF bandwidth. The Peak to Average Power Ratio (PAPR) is less than 1dB, allowing efficient use of transmitter power amplifiers."
Read more: freedv.org/radio-autoencoder/

I've listen to a few transmissions and the clarity at a signal to noise ratio of -2dB is utterly remarkable. It's just a shame that the bands are almost devoid of digital voice, bar a few minutes per day.

A quick look at the FreeDV reporter page shows that everyone is listening, and almost no-one is transmitting. How does that work?
