I just finished reading Fun Home my Alison Bechdel today.

It was beautiful, insightful, a mix of realism, unreality, and critique, and not fun.

Must graphic novels specifically, and all media generally, be fun? I don't think so. But this was a slog; a dispassionate introspection which was too close to one's own personal experience.

I just got cast in "Fun Home" as Alison Bechdel's father, Bruce, which is cool. On the other hand, it means tapping into some of the shittier parts of my (potential) character. Fragility and volatility are already infecting my non-theater life, and I don't care for it.
