I saw this article about how Disney almost made a movie of Terry Pratchett's Mort, but the deal fell through because of "rights issues". Specifically the "...project died because Disney needed to buy the film rights to the entire Discworld saga just to make Mort."
What an interesting way of phrasing that. Having read Sir Pratchett's biography, it appears that this is a rather twisted version of the truth. If I recall correctly, Disney had included language in the contract that would have given them complete control over Discworld, while giving the impression they were only negotiating terms for making this one movie. Can you imagine the loss to literature if they had succeeded in their trick? "Rights issues" indeed.
