This is what grifters do, they join a movement superficially to extract something from it. Money, social capital, titles, etc. When serious work is required of them, they move on, typically deriding the movement they are leaving as having 'gone too far' or 'lost the plot' in order to gain a new audience to grift off of.

When seeing the quote in his Wikipedia article, I thought it was ridiculous and unfair that the founder of probably the most popular encyclopaedia worldwide judged the situation based on his personal experience instead of hard evidence.
But now that I look at the whole email, he makes a good point IMO.

😲 Holy smokes. Internet drama, apparently in the repair/ #righttorepair community there's been recent drama around some software for diagnosing Playstation hardware issues.
The drama started with the vendor ("BwE") being unpleasant and terminating licenses for people running software he didn't approve of, not sure if that involved running processes or actually checking installs or the file system. This reached Louis Rossmann, who did a video about it and also established a bounty for someone to create an open source alternative.
Unpleasant dude then escalated by striking Louis' video. This was a **mistake** and escalated it to "now you have my attention" territory.
Today's culmination is the video covering Mr Unpleasant's 'hacker' years in the early 2010s that ended with 4+ years (in prison?) at least in part due to blackmailing teenage girls into sexual acts on camera.
This seems to predate '#Gamergate' but it's absolutely reminiscent of it and I'd be astonished if this dude wasn't all over 4chan back then.
I love how #MAGA eats their own. Young men and #gamergate types who voted for #Trump are going to end up doing honest work in the fields, replacing immigrant labor. Look no further than Florida's child labor laws, well the South as a whole also has a criminal "justice" system that turns young men into, well indentured servants to be kind. Todo comenzó en una convención de ateos cuando una chica publicó en un foro sobre un hombre que le coqueteó en un elevador e intentó invitarla a su habitación 🚗. Ella simplemente recomendó a los hombres que evitaran hacer eso y BOOM: recibió amenazas de muerte 💥.
Lo más loco es que ni siquiera reveló la identidad del tipo. Se podría pensar que los religiosos son los que más critican a las mujeres, pero aquí se vio que también hay ateos sexistas 🧐.
Gamergate: el «activismo» gamer que se volvió acoso 🎮😔
Luego llegó el famoso Gamergate, que comenzó cuando un desarrollador acusó a su exnovia Zoe Quinn de haberle sido infiel con un periodista de videojuegos para obtener buenas reseñas. Lo peor es que esa reseña nunca existió, pero el movimiento se disfrazó de «transparencia» para justificar ataques y acoso en masa contra Quinn 💬❌.
Comicsgate: ¿la diversidad arruinó los cómics? 🌟
En la industria del cómic también se desató una batalla cuando las editoriales empezaron a incluir personajes de distintos grupos raciales, étnicos y con diversidad de orientación sexual 🤝. Algunos fans argumentaban que esto se hacía a costa de una buena narrativa y que reemplazaban personajes icónicos (como cuando Tony Stark fue sustituido por Riri Williams 🌟).
¿Y qué tiene que ver esto con Rachel Zegler? 🤔
Lo que está pasando con Rachel tiene muchas similitudes con estos casos: un grupo de «fans» enojados porque sienten que sus historias favoritas están siendo modificadas para ser «políticamente correctas». Pero, al analizarlo bien, se ve un patrón de odio dirigido especialmente a mujeres que desafían lo que ellos consideran «normal» 🚫.
Pensamiento crítico desde la primaria: la clave para no caer en propaganda 🤦♀️
Con toda esta información, es claro que desde pequeños se debe enseñar a analizar la información, cuestionar fuentes y entender cuándo un contenido busca manipular emociones en lugar de presentar hechos 💡.
Además, otro punto importante es enseñar a reconocer cuándo la burla se hace a costa de alguien más. En muchas culturas, como en México, hacer chistes pesados es parte de la idiosincrasia, pero rara vez se respeta cuando la persona afectada expresa que le molesta. Ahora la respuesta fácil es decir «generación de cristal» en lugar de reflexionar sobre el impacto de la vergüenza tóxica y cómo esto perpetúa ciclos de trauma. No se trata de perder el humor, sino de entender los límites y el respeto 💬✨.

La derecha alternativa se está colando ahora en el mundo del entretenimiento y, con lo que está pasando en México, no me sorprendería en absoluto si un partido de extrema derecha gana poder. Este movimiento ha permeado diversas industrias y está ganando terreno, lo que hace aún más urgente que todos aprendamos a cuestionar la información que recibimos.
El crítico de cine y el pensamiento crítico 📽️
Hace poco vi que un crítico de cine publicó en su muro que los «ciudadanos comunes» se creían críticos y que no podían publicar sus puntos de vista. Eso, sinceramente, me parece una postura muy fascista. El pensamiento crítico en cualquier nivel de estudios es indispensable, y es lo más sensato para una convivencia tanto en línea como en la vida real. No es cuestión de ser experto, sino de ser capaz de pensar por uno mismo, cuestionar lo que nos dicen y analizar diferentes perspectivas.
Si queremos un mundo mejor, necesitamos formar personas que piensen críticamente y no se dejen llevar por discursos de odio disfrazados de «críticas» 🌟.
