A closeup of a bearded iris bloom looking slightly down at it, the camera raise about 15 to 20 degrees from horizontal. There are five visible petals that alternate between curling up and down. They are a purple/violet color for the first two thirds and fade into a variegated whiteish with brown red stripes closer to the flower body. The bright yellow/orange beard runs along the midline of the variegated section. The two petals to either side curl up around the center of the flower and touch at the tips.

The bearded Butterscotch German Iris bud, Iradaceae, is almost as dramatic in the spring garden as the full bloom. Both the Iris blooms and buds are quite showy and have a graceful beauty. I have this as a metal print in my bathroom and it's stunning!
