A small brownish-grey lizard with triangular spots in rows is clinging to the weather stripping at the bottom of my orange front door, basking in the warm sun.

Another hoverfly of the genus Syrphus. I think hoverflies are my favourite insect group. The eyes don't meet at the top of the head, indicating that this one is a female. Identification to species level in this genus is usually not possible from a photograph, but is most likely one of S. ribesii, S. vitripennis or S. torvus.
