#HTMX

Great UX shouldn't require a complete rewrite. Dave Mosher compares a React SPA vs HTMX for the same app.

HTMX delivers on what matters:
- Ship faster (one deployment vs two)
- Onboard developers faster (HTML + HTTP, done)
- Serve users better (works without JS)
- Keep it together (1 script vs dependency chaos)

Not about abandoning Reactโ€”it's about choosing complexity only when it adds user value.

Compare the approaches:

Please Just Fucking Try HTMX

"Look. I'm not going to call you a fucking moron every other sentence. That's been done. It's a whole genre now. And honestly? HTMX doesn't need me to scream at you to make its point."

I posted this (https://pleasejusttryhtmx.com) in an engineering chat and I got responses from folks who literally do not believe in CRUD apps and have never seen jobs where folks are paid to build them. I really did offend these folks by offering another option to SPA-frameworks. It was wild how much they lashed out.

๐Ÿš€ "Please Just Try HTMX" implores like a ๐Ÿถ desperate for a treat, yet it's just another "sweary web manifesto" that will be ignored faster than a Chrome update. ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ You'll chuckle, maybe nod, then return to untangling your spaghetti code while collects dust. ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ”ง

htmy 0.10 is now on PyPI!

The major feature is async HTML streaming, plus some performance improvements.

Also moved the docs to @zensical - thanks for the mkdocs config support! It made the transition super easy.

Next steps: bring async HTML streaming to FastHX (FastAPI โค๏ธ HTMX) and holm, to have a compelling FastAPI-based FastHTML replacement.

Working on a #web page that will have a table with five columns and 100 rows. It will have controls in each column header cell to sort the table ascending/descending by the value of that column.

Question: should I do it all in #JavaScript or should I use #HTMX and do the sorting on the server side?

First talk of the day: @thbley introducing us to #HTMX for PHP developers

2025-12-11

If anyone is doing anything with #HTMX, I have a diabolical plan to use it to embed mini-applications in my own company's software. github.com/bigskysoftware/htmx

2025-12-11

@MichalBryxi Ahh ok. Then Rails, Pheonix, Laravel is what you want. They have dom updates via websockets now, so no full page reload needed.
Or go with #htmx if you don't want an entire framework.

I used monoliths and microservices. Both have advantages. Both kindof suck. It depends ๐Ÿคท
