Two steps forwards, one step back. Just as I had got the gear meshing really nicely tuned with the nice differentials I bought, I realised the dogbone cups on them were too large for the dogbones my suspension arms need. Luckily they came with another pair of differentials but they are a different size to the others in all dimensions, so several hours of CAD later and we are doing test fit prints again. #HackyRacers
Good progress this week on the CAD modelling of the alloy parts I bought for my A2 Hacky Racer. I started designing the rear wheel assembly tonight. #HackyRacers #CAD #robotics
One down, six more to go. #hackyracers #cad
@rpimag Progress on my actual build today. I have a working differential gearbox. Parts all remodelled to fit the bearings on these metal parts which were different to the dimensions of the original design. Tuning the positioning of the gears so they mesh well without binding required 0.25mm adjustment precision. After several test prints to dial in the exact dimensions it runs really smoothly now with the parts I bought. #hackyracers
We’re gonna need parts, lots of parts. #hackyracers #RoboticsSeries
I was up late working on CAD for my #hackyracers A2 class robotic racer design so I could confirm the sizes of RC drive train parts I needed to order from AiExpress. Planning an off road 4WD chassis with suspension and Ackerman steering. My first foray into brushless motor drive too. #maker #Robotics
The folks behind #HackyRacers are starting a new "Robotic Racing" event.
Ideally #RaspberryPi autonomous vehicles but remote control is also possible.
Limited entries (only 10 places) for the first event in April as part of #Footfest

After the busy weekend in Cambridge here are a few more posts from over in the other thing about #HackyRacers #PiWars #RoboticRacing Challenge.
First up a short YouTube photo montage from competitor and "Little Trak" creator Phil Willis @ptbw
@n20437 @recantha
Cool 😎 thanks for sharing more #HackyRacers pictures 👍
A pic of the man himself, Mark Mellors, aboard the infamous Rule Zero. #HackyRacers.
As pointed out on Twitter by @Cannonfodder there is something wrong with this picture....
.... Rule Zero has all 4 wheels on the ground. Usually it cocks it's inside rear wheel in the air like a pup at a lamppost courtesy of its solid rear axle. Again thanks to @recantha for the picture
Day two of #HackyRacers
More passing on info and action from #HitchinHackspace member Mark Mellors who is part of the https://hackyracers.co.uk/ and the #RoboticRacingSeries https://hackyracers.co.uk/robotic-racing-series/ autonomous #raspberrypi controlled race event , in association with #PiWars, in Cambridge at The Roger Needham Building at Cambridge University just off the A1303 today.
We will try to keep up with Mark's posts on Txxxxxr.....
Have I had a productive day?
Why yes, yes I have.
While working on a project in the run up to @emf this year I dropped a spanner and it fell through a gap in my workshop floor. I'm building a homage to Thunderbird 4 and sending it on a rescue mission.
The donor vehicle is a Nikko VolociTrax, you can find them for £20 if you shop around. This is one of two I bought for #PiWars prototyping in 2019.
Itll also be the basis for my #autonomous #hackyracers e try for the A4 class
A bit of an intro, I'm a #robotics engineer but dabble in many things. #programming, #music occasionally, always making something! This is my robot #nefive, originally built for #PiWars, but has a life of his own now.
I'm also one of the organisers of #hackyracers! More about that soon...
