"Double Check" by Seward Johnson (1982)
The sculpture of a businessman checking his briefcase was located in Liberty Plaza Park, across from the World Trade Center in NYC. In the aftermath of the attacks, some rescue workers understandably mistook the statue for a person. In the days after the terrorist attacks, the statue beccame a makeshift memorial. Moved by the tributes, Johnson recalled the copy that was touring Germany at the time, along with some of the tributes which had been placed on the statue by visitors paying their respects to Americans. He cast the tributes in bronze and reattached them to the statue in the position he found them.

These pictures were taken on our 2014 visit to the Grounds for Sculpture in Hamilton New Jersey.
