#Ham #Amateurfunk #Blind #Accessibility #HamRadio2025 #FediHams #FediHamsFN

Then I found the windows implementation of #direwolf not satisfying as it doesn't work with #Hamlib, which forced me to use the DTR signal from one of my rig's virtual com port. Only the Linux implementation works with Hamlib.
So I had to switch to Linux and consider moving #Winlink as well which is developed only for windows. I tried some manual install in the past but didn't succeed.

But this time, I found ...

This evening's 'simple' software design has taken a large detour via #hamlib and I'm now trying to work out how to implement a rotctld network equivalent in #esphome
Using an esprelay X4 board + switches + pos sensors pretty much covers my use case, but I also want remote NET (not usb or serial) control.

Ok everyone, the #Hamlib people have released v4.6.1 which reverts the change that broke compilation for lots of apps (except #fldigi whose author is massively on the ball) so look for it in your favourite packaging system soonish (unless you're running Debian <sigh>).

I seem to be seeing more #ham radio operators using a #Mac. This is awesome and with some luck we'll see more software authors supporting the Mac (like the excellent #fldigi, #hamlib and #YAAC software). For anyone interested there has been a ham-mac mailing list for years where Hams could talk about mac related topics. See mailman.qth.net/mailman/listin

Did the most recent #Linux Mint updates break the #hamlib rig control software? I have a desktop that I keep updated and an old MS Surface pro that has not been updated. CAT control still works on the Surface with wsjt-x and js8call, not with the updated desktop version. This is with the Hermes Lite 2.

Anyone familiar with the hamlib API? I have a question about it.

My code uses `rig_get_vfo` to get the current VFO (which I assume is the VFO used for rx, and maybe tx). I then call `rig_get_split_vfo`, pass in the "rx vfo" I just got and get the "tx vfo" as well as whether or not split is enabled.

Is this sane? It doesn't seem to work with *any* ICOM radios because those don't implement the get_vfo callback so I get `RIG_ENAVAIL`.

Hmmm...looking like its some interaction between RF GAIN knob and the S meter and possibly the auto tuner. Played with them until I could get the S meter giving me updated values via rigctl. Need to dig deeper, but this part of the pipeline (and AGC) has always been a creaky corner for me!

Weird issue with one of my hamlib / rigctl scripts. My s-meter seems stuck at "181" no matter what, rest of my rigctl works as expected, serial baud right, freq can be set, etc... radio and laptop have been dormant for 4 months or so, not sure what changed. need to see what got update behind the scenes... weird!

@m0rpk You are right, it is not ready for contest.

But maybe, there is a way to insert the relevant data to your editor using #hamlib. :alex_thinking:

#GettingCloser on the #SatNOGS RF ground station for #satellites .

The Green Heron RT-21 Az/El rotator controller is different from many other rotators in that it has a separate USB port for Az and El. In other words, you plug in to the rotator with two USB cables for the Raspbery Pi.

Bits of it are in #hamlib , but I think it is only for other models.

Outdoor sceen with indoor picture insert.

Outdoor shows antenna rotator with two antennas.

General junk outside, geek stuff.

Inset shows rotator controller with raspberry Pi and power.

Is there an (also open source) alternative to #HamLib ? Every time I try to use its API, I hit a bug. #HamRadio

#LY1BWB: a fully remote-controlled and #Linux based satellite VHF/UHF station in Vilnius, Lithuania, can be tuned in by anyone at sdr.vhf.lt. For #hamradio purposes, we only use free and open source software (FedoraOS, #hamlib, Gpredict, cwdaemon, qsstv, pulseaudio, ...). En route to #fosdem2020, I have remotely downloaded this gem while in an airport lounge:

Always have used openGEO ecosystem when it comes to GIS/RS design and dev. Fan of - gpredict creator, one of very few HAM who strongly advocates free software.

Even with , GNU/Linux - Free sw/hw ecosystem laks necessary tools for Amateur Radio. Although within past few years SDR tools have been in rise - lots need to be done in areas merging radio and gis.

Begin once member of local community, its sad to see ham's using prop. tools mostly.

Linux in the Ham Shack | #206.

In this episode: an in-depth look at the wonder of hamlib, the software that binds applications to amateur radio hardware.

It's cross platform, small and actively developed.
