we want to connect an esp32 wroom mini to a lipo battery with 3,7 volt in order to make it portable. how can we charge the battery while it is connected to the esp without it going up in flames? 🔥

I recorded a quick video showing how I tapped into the power and data inside the barcode scanner to interface to the #esp32 running #esphome. I'm working on some QoL tweaks to improve the interface to #grocy to allow for more use-cases.
I also clipped the pins down a bit so the whole thing is a bit more compact.
Once the esphome code is a bit less shameful I'll post it on github.
Full res on the actual matrix, but needed to use an #esp32 N16R8 so I had enough RAM for the buffers.

On the importance of your power source when tinkering: I use a #diy hack with an #esp32 to forward fire alarms from my pager to my mobile.
When I used a cheap "65W" AliExpress power source (cost 3.5€), I would get false alarms in irregular intervals (sometimes like every 10 minutes). I have now switched the power plug to something from an actual brand, and I have not received a single false alarm.
Yeah, buy cheap, buy twice and all that...

Inspired by Youtube's Patt Vira, I implemented the Reaction Diffusion algorithm in C++ on my testbed for my 64x64 matrix. Next step is to port this to my #esp32 #microcontroller and have it output directly on the #HUB75E #LED Matrix display.
In my implementation, I have three different rendering modes
Every 0.5 seconds I add/subtract a bit of B value to keep the sim alive, and reset the entire thing if the balance goes over 50%

New 433mhz units arrived! Pretty much plug and play with Bruce firmware, although the i2c hub unit turned out to not work the way I thought it worked. The biggest discovery is what _isn't_ using that frequency - I now officially have no idea how my own bedroom lights work!
