For the #Quechua (AKA #Inca or #Inka) people, the winter solstice was the time of #IntiRaymi, traditionally the biggest celebration of the year. It was the darkest time of year, which meant that it was about to get brighter, sunnier, and warmer. This was all tied to the rebirth of #Inti, the god of the sun, and lasted for nine days before the Spanish banned it.

Streetartwall. On the outside wall of an old two-storey building a beautiful mural of a young woman and a tree was sprayed/painted. Reduced to the warm colors yellow and brown, the face of a young woman is depicted disappearing pale in a pale yellow foliage and bright flowers. She appears almost fragile as she raises her hand protectively over a thorny little tree in a golden-brown clay pot. The clay pot is typical of Chilean art from the Atacama Desert and has a small cow's head on the front. The tree (a Prosopis tamarugo tree), also stands for Chile and the unconventional beauty of a plant that thrives even in the driest regions. A symbol of life and resistance for the local population. Extraordinary.

Si vous prenez la ligne 6 du métro à #Paris, en direction de Nation, vous connaissez l'artiste #Inti. Vous pouvez voir sa spectaculaire #PeintureMurale « Madre Secular 2 » vers la station Chevaleret. Il expose ses œuvres à la galerie Itinerrance jusqu'au 25 novembre. On peut y voir ses motifs récurrents (roses, cranes…) sur grandes toiles mais aussi des esquisses de ses peintures murales. L'expo mérite la visite.

Sur le pignon d'un immeuble, derrière un réverbère, la peinture d'une madone ressort devant des immeubles. Sa robe ample aux nombreux plis est blanc et crème. Son visage, légèrement penché vers le bas, de trois quart, aux yeux clos, est entouré d'une barbette pourpre ornée de motifs de voies lactées et d'étoiles. Elle est couverte d'un capuchon dans les tons jaunes-orangers orné de grandes fleurs jaunes, blanches et pourpres. Ses mains sont gantés de longues mitaines pourpres ornées d'étoiles, de voies lactées et de diamants. Elle porte des bracelets et un collier de cranes. Sa main gauche tient une pomme où est inscrit un « G » et une flèche pointant vers le bas. L'arrière-plan est de couleur crème unie sur la moitié inférieure et est décorée de roses pourpres sur la partie supérieure de la fresque. Une partie des roses, un peu plus claire, forme une demi auréole autour de la tête de la femme. La peinture est signée Inti.

Sur la droite, le mur est recouvert d'une œuvre d'Inti représentant un fond de roses et de cranes jaunes avec, au centre, un cœur d'où sortent des épines et des fleurs. À gauche de la peinture murale, une surface vitrée indique « Galerie Itinerrance ». À travers les vitres, on peut voir un mur entièrement peint de roses et de cranes jaunes.

Détail d'une peinture. Sur un vêtement blanc et gris, une main tatouée d'entrelacs de tiges vertes sortant d'un crane, de fleurs et de feuilles tient un crane dont la partie supérieure manque. Il forme ainsi une coupe d'où sortent une pomme rouge et une grappe de raisins pourpre avec leur tige et leur feuille de vigne marron. À gauche, une partie de la main droite est visible, également tatouée.

Today is the #SummerSolstice in the northern hemisphere, but it’s the #WinterSolstice in the southern hemisphere.
The Winter Solstice celebrations were called Inti Raymi (Sun Festival) by the Incas. 🌞
The Spanish outlawed Inti Raymi but it was revived again in the 20th century.

Streetartwall. On the outer wall of a narrow multi-storey house is sprayed/painted a mural of an elegant lady. The upper part is a frieze of purple roses, below a light yellow background. Borrowing from Art Nouveau, on it is a lady in a lush dress in light yellow and striking drapery and wide sleeves. The dress merges into a bright orange cloth with bright flowers on it, which then covers her head. Her hair is under a purple colored cloth and her bright, finely drawn face is encompassed by a scarf in purple underneath, on which tiny white skulls can be seen. Her hands reach into the cloth of her dress in front of her chest. She wears Iila colored gloves. Here, too, the beaded bracelets on them can be recognized as skulls on closer inspection. A star on one hand and a diamond on the other complete the whole.
