#Insectivore

Hot, hot, hot tonight. I was going to cook something for tea, but they say that insects are the future of food, and I’ve got enough flies stuck to my face that I could feed an army.

Imagine finding food by sticking your nostrils in the dirt. That's the life of an echidna.

There are a few around at the moment, and each seems to have a different technique. This one shoves its snout in the ground and moves its head about in a way that remonds me of a doctor performing liposuction.

Photo of an echidna standing on the forest floor, facing the camera and with one front foot slightly raised. Cream-coloured spines with black tips poke through coffee-coloured fur.Closeup photo of an echidna's nose. At the end are two wet nostrils containing some mud. Where the nose joins the fase there is more mud embedded in its fur.

Terrible photo as I didn't want to disturb them too much, but how cool is this? We have a small colony of microbats living under a rug hanging on our veranda railing.
