Today’s training were #HillRepeats - first 60s hard #uphill (7 times), then 30s hard uphill (also 7 times).
Day 1 of the next training block for my next race, The Poseidon Athens Half Marathon in 12 weeks time and a visit to the gym for an easy pace 6.5km to start things off with. 11 minutes of yoga for runners.
21 minutes of core strength training.
11 KM of #Running (13°C, -16 windchill, 87% humidity, and 6 KM/H wind).
Good workouts, and another good zone 2 run. Setting the watch to handle the zone change notifications is a significant improvement for me, and I think I'm starting to get a feeling of when to slow down. Bit over an hour in Z2 and 15 in Z3.
So easy to speed up though! 🤣

Detours was today's theme. First one was just a few fallen trees that send us on to a path that went straight around two big hunting dog kennels. Detour two was picked, which ended here, see attached picture. Google Satellite and OpenSteetMap had nothing about this, looked like the rest of the area. Which was a spiders web of trails on the ground, some marked with posts/arrows and few of them on the maps. So detour three was picked while I was singing along to Talking Head's (Nothing but) Flowers and having a good old time. It also got me thinking about the brilliant movie The Emerald Forest (1985) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Emerald_Forest Shorter run than planned but what a nice area to run in.

NSD (New Shoe Day)!
An early evening run on the footpath along a neighborhood creek. Ran 10 km super easy as usual. Wore a new pair of running shoes, Asics GEL-Excite 11. They are thick sole shoes and give me more cushioning. I prefer barefoot type and flat sole shoes, but I'm giving the cushioning shoes a try, besides this model was on-sale and relatively inexpensive.

So I learned about an endurance challenge that comes from the long distance cross country skiing world (Ski Classics[see below]) and was established by a (Norwegian) team:
The Ragde Indoor Challenge
- 5000m treadmill running with a 10% incline
- 5000m skiing on the skierg with resistance 7
- 2000m rowing on the rowerg
(transition times count and are included like in the triathlon)

No, I haven’t tried it myself yet. Would be interesting though. But I am not sure if I would go for an all out effort. It would keep the fun of doing it far away. I guess just a reasonable training effort will be sufficient enough.

Ski Classics is a long distance cross country skiing championship series including competitions like Vasaloppet 90km, Marcia Longa 70km, La Diagonela 55km and a few more races between 40-60km. Athletes compete as members of professional teams (like in cycling and the Tour de France). It has been around for some 15 years or so. The races are part of the normal skiing events and regular people participate in (Vasaloppet has about 16000 people doing the 90km). One could also argue that Ski Classics is the Norwegian-Swedish championships in long distance cross country skiing. In terms of the teams and athletes participating. 😜🙃

I'm finally getting somewhere with that #running thing. Bike / #cycling commutes are a secret superpower and I went for the first longer ride of the year. And, whenever I can choose between public transport, car or #walking, I choose to walk (often faster than taking the bus, in #Edinburgh in particular)!
