So I've been fiddling with #ZenBrowser for a little while and it has just come to my attention that #Firefox has already implemented a huge amount of what is in it (and like just turned on by zendevs), such as the verticle tabs and streamlined interface.

Pretty much boils Zen down to a theme engine.

`Open communication has always been a cornerstone of science. However, in the past 50 years it has been largely obstructed by high prices that prevent free flow of information and exchange of ideas, effectively blocking and preventing new groundbreaking discoveries in science and medicine.`

Aaron Straup Cope | Keynote Speech FACT Symposium

I was delighted to watch this Keynote address from my former colleague and long time pal, Aaron Straup Cope. In it he makes a number of nice references to the projects we worked on together and the things I worked on after he and Seb Chan left the team at Cooper Hewitt.

It’s been 15 years since and I’m amazed at how the work is still talked about across the sector. I’m really proud of that work and reflecting these days, I’m glad we did the things we did and in the way we did them, even when they wound up looking like “expensive mistakes.”

This talk is worth your time if you care about cultural heritage, museums, and the internet. It’s especially relevant today as we are continually asked to bear witness to the possible undoing of hundreds of years of American democracy!

The modern internet is so terrible. "Let's load a page about one specific topic but just keep playing videos until some random point and then we'll stop"

Screenshot of a USAToday web page. The caption text says "Delta plane crashes at Toronto airport, officials say. Officials from Toronto Pearson International Airport say a Delta jet crashed there."
But the image is of someone on skis standing in front of hill covered in lava from a volcanic eruption.

I love being able to read an article from a country I'm not in that is about two different countries, neither of which I'm in.

After doing exhausting research on crypto for about 20 minutes and losing interest to cat videos I can say confidently stay away from it …

The joys of self hosting. Got a call about a #mailbounce, realised that the #DominExpired because the credit card had expired. Why no alert? The mail account the alert was sent to had been decommissioned years ago #cruft

A #long-shot request to the #interwebs #hivemind collected memory...

I vaguely recall a scene from a recent British police drama, I *think* it was #Annika, where the detective was called in to her boss (Superintendent??) for a very awkward conversation about an email she had supposedly sent asking her (happily married) boss out on a date. Turned out it was a prank email from her colleagues using her unlocked computer.

I thought it would make a great and humorous way to make the point with my team about locking workstations when not in use (as per company policy). And trying to find it is now bugging me!

Does anyone out there have a better memory of the scene. Which series or episode? Do I even have the show right?

Or maybe you can suggest alternate scenes/clips that emphasize the same point?

Thanks hivemind!

If you’re here because X is down lol.

mxtthxw.art has had zero downtime this year and that’s with just me running it.

If you’re betting on Elno over me, you’re doing it wrong. #Interwebs
