Another great, in-depth report from Capital B News. This one's about the water system in Jackson, Mississippi, which, after two years of fighting between residents, Jackson officials, and state officials, is still in a state of disrepair, spitting contaminated, often tea-colored water out of residents' taps. Capital B reporters unearthed evidence that the EPA failed to act on its own reports about Jackson's water quality, thereby leaving a large amount of federal money, which could have been used to prevent the crisis, unspent.

Your daily unwelcome reminder that the #CivilWar never ended. Not a good look for #JacksonMS.

"Some relatives of those found buried behind the jail simply thought they were missing. They object to having to pay a fee for the removal of their loved one’s remains that are needed for a proper burial."

"#JacksonMS is a city full of history and culture. It's also a city suffering from local, state, and national neglect.
In August 2022 when newspapers announced that the city had issued a boil order for the city’s water, many were reminded of Flint, Michigan and other working class, primarily Black cities around the country who have been left without a vital service for days, weeks, months, and years.

Safe drinking water is a human right."

@alexwild @oh_that_courtney I think that #water control strategy is also going on in #jacksonms. Seems like there are parallels here, in demographics. Also to note that 2020 White House #votersuppression pressures were applied to similar demographics in must have #electoralcollege states. This #library suppression strategy also reeks of #JimCrow

We pay tribute, with grief and heavy hearts,
To Keith Murriel who sadly parts
From this world too soon
Amid cries of injustice and doom
We cannot ignore this tragedy's start

Who else is watching ‘We’re Here’?

De'Bronski‘s performance was remarkable. And the costuming was brilliant: From someone who felt invisible to someone who filled the entire stage up to the rafters!

Screenshot of De'Bronski performing in a full length red gown. The back of the gown unfurls, and lifts up all the way to the top and sides of the stages and billows in wind as De'Bronski leans forward with arms out, reached a mouth fully open, belting out the song.

@GuerillaOntologist I thought I saw an article floating around somewhere in the past few days about Akuno levying criticism of Mayor Lumumba. I'll see if I can dig it up, but I wonder if there's a strategic split akin the the #BernieSanders v. #MurrayBookchin feud in #BurlingtonVt in the 1980s? I'll see if I can dig up the article...
