Some progress to have some #opensource projects compilable again.
As a maintainer of #FreeTTS, I am still stuck to #java8 and #ant as a build system.
I upgraded from the deprecated Maven ANT Task to the Maven Resolver ANT task.
Publishing to local works again, but I am still fighting to upload my snapshot to #SonatypeNexus to have it on #MavenCentral again.

Plan war vor 2 Jahren von #Java8 auf #Java17 umzustellen. Leider haben uns die vielen 3rdParty-Libs immer wieder ein Strich durch die Rechnung gemacht. Es wurde schwieriger und schwieriger- wir mussten auch einiges lernen.

Zwischendurch kam #Java11 (einfach), und #Java17 #Jakarta8 (war zu dem Zeitpunkt dann irgendwie möglich)

Also: Drückt uns die Daumen....

man, I wasted too many hours in the past with classpath issues. now it's module system issues? I want a fork of Gradle that does not even support #Java8.

I’d love to learn more about why so many systems are stuck on #java 8. I’ve never worked on one of these systems, but mention of it always fascinates me. What changed and made the upgrade so difficult? Links to articles, blog posts, and discussions are greatly appreciated.

Now this is a puzzle, and all I need do is tell you it is #Tomcat9 on #Java8 running #Ubuntu 18.04 to set most of you running, but here's the thing: starting around midnight on the 18th, tomcat will no longer run. There's been no changes other than automated software updates.

catalina.sh start shows the webapps loading, no worries, no alarms, gets to the last one and reports "Killed." and sure enough, it is. Not a shred of log evidence, no kernel messages (ie OOM), nothing that I can detect.

Why is this compiling in Java?

BiConsumer<List<String>, String> test = List::add;

In eclipse or IntelliJ on inspection List::add points to List.add(E e) returning Boolean primitive, which is not a BiConsumer. A single argument.

What is happening here, there is some other method or some compiler magic?

Or add method is effectively equivalent to add(List<String> this, String arg), strange syntax not normally used but compiles, note first arg name has to be this.

My CalculateAverage code has been executed for the :java: #1brc challenge.
I didn't get the expected result on the advertised "This CPU will impress you with its multi-tasking performance." CPU (See graph).
Also did some jdk8 tests.
