i began to suspect the 25+ year old firewire cables i was using were half-dead.

time for some web sleuthing: "imac g5 firewire not working"

just a bunch of the same idiotic posts from wannabe apple store techs: "did you zap the PRAM" "did you unplug the computer for 5 minutes".

the two most common answers to any apple computer question, and they make me instantly irate when i see them. signs of a novice repeating the same bad advice they learned in 1995 from an apple dealer.

it's never the pram. it's never the smc.

did the Command-Option-P-R pram reset. no difference.

fine. unplugged the iMac from the wall for 5 minutes. rebooted.

............ it detected the iPod

....... it detected the Sony DCR-IP5 camera (!)

it is always the pram.
it's always the fucking smc.

AmigaOS 4 Monthly Roundup – December 2025

Introduction

Hi everyone,

Thank you for visiting my blog. 🙂

Another month, another massive amount of news. I’m so impressed by all the work that people are doing on the platform! 🙂 Thanks to all developers for their amazing dedication!

And by the way, if someone tells you in a forum that there is nothing happening on AmigaOS 4 / AmigaOne, and that it is a dead platform, well, please feel free to show them all the roundups on this site, for example those covering the last two-three months. Chances are they will be a extremely surprised… 😉

For the next year, I hope that magazines such as Amiga Addict and Amiga Future will cover more AmigaOS 4 news. There is so much happening on our platform, so I think readers would be interested in reading about new games, programs, and other developments. 🙂 Now with the Mirari gaining traction and clever minds getting AmigaOS 4 to run on it, it will be even more interesting and relevant.

Since the last roundup, I received feedback about the embedded YouTube videos. These are very demanding for the browser, and when there are many of them listed on the same page, it causes problems when you try browsing the blog on an Amiga. Thanks to nbache on Amigans for the feedback here, which is to include image snapshots of the videos, with a direct link to the videos on YouTube instead. This solution has now been implemented, and I hope it helps. 🙂 Also thanks to George Sokianos for suggestions for tools for this purpose.

Without further ado, let’s get cracking with the news!

Software News

First up is a piece from Amiga-news.de, who reports that HunoPPC has released yet a new port. This time of the game, Lilium Voyager. This is a fork of Ioquake 3 for running Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force Holomatch (multiplayer).

Ola Söder has released InstallerLG version 1.0.4, which is a reimplementation of the “Installer” utility included with AmigaOS as of version 2.1. InstallerLG aims to be fully compatible with the original as described in the V44.10 documentation. Most resource limitations found in the Commodore implementation are gone, and the GUI has been replaced by a MUI / Zune based one.

A. Pankalla has released an update to Luettje Bookholler, which is a personal finance program. For those of you who are curious about what “Luettje Bookholler” means (I’ve mentioned this in an earlier roundup, but will repeat it for new readers), I can tell you that it is German and means “Little Accountant”. Version 1.89 can be found here:

Vim is a highly configurable text editor built to make creating and changing any kind of text very efficient. Vim is rock stable and is continuously being developed to become even better. Among its features are:

  • Persistent, multi-level undo tree
  • Extensive plugin system
  • Support for hundreds of programming languages and file formats
  • Powerful search and replace
  • Integrates with many tools

Please note that this is not a straight port of the upstream version. It includes a full MUI GUI with most of the bells and whistles found in Vim on any of the major platforms.

WHDLoad to E-UAE is a wrapper tool created by Kjetil Hvalstrand. This replaces the native 68k version of WHDLoad. Instead of running it directly on AmigaOS 4, this utility launches E-UAE, then starts up the real 68k WHDLoad inside the emulator, using the included WHDLoad boot disk. Version 3.2 is out now:

https://os4depot.net/?function=showfile&file=emulation/utility/whdload-to-uae.lha

Domenico Lattanzi has released version 1.0 of Serial Door. According to the author, this is a program that allows to transfer files directly from one computer to another, using a serial connection. It has been designed to work with heterogeneous systems, both equipped with a RS-232 serial port. The mechanism works by launching Serial Door on both computers, connected to each other via serial port (e.g. with a null modem cable), and managing both ends of the communication with just a few settings (essentially, the port to be used and the transfer speed). The mechanism implemented has been designed to be as simple as possible, so is not reserved to advanced users.

Interested in more racing games? If so, I can tempt you with a new pack of such games from HunoPPC. This one contains three titles:

  • Screamer 1
  • Screamer 2
  • Screamer Rally

According to HunoPPC, a good system configuration is required to run the games, which must have the ogles2.library and the warp3dnova libraries installed. Recommended graphics cards are the RX480 8 GB and RX580 8 GB.

This pack does not contain AmigaOS 4 ports, but a setup using DOSBox to run them.

More information is available here:

https://hunoppc.amiga-projects.net/content/screamer-pack-amigaos4

The Amiga Retro Channel is always on the ball, and provides us with a great video here:

The same setup is used for Nitro Racers, which is a video game developed by the Derry-based game studio Torc Interactive and published in Europe by Studio 3DO for the PC. HunoPPC has now made this one available on AmigaOS 4 as well.

An updated version, 3.6, of the YouTube URL Extractor Script by Michael Trebilcock was released on December 7th. YT.rexx is a script for providing direct video and audio links from YouTube URLs.

Changes from the previous are as follows:

3.6 – 7th Dec 2025:

  • DualPlay can be set as a .cfg option (requires AutoPlay enabled in .cfg)
  • Fixed autoplay not always selecting original audio language
  • Minor bug fixes

More history within the archive.

Now for some more gaming-related news! George Sokianos has released an updated version of the OpenGW port to AmigaOS 4. He writes as follows on Ko-fi:

“Now, I am releasing an update because to be honest, I was not happy with the performance, and the MorphOS version turned out to be better.

So, I grabbed their code and applied most of the changes into my port, to speed it up. Many of the changes were about the maths calculations, but the most significant improvement in speed comes from the way the grid is drawn.”

  • Added a configuration screen where the different options can be set
  • Now the configuration is saved and will be used on every game load

More information is available here:

Allkeys is a program by Daniel Westerberg that enables you to use all possible rawkeys on your keyboard. This means that you can use the keys on PC-keyboards that doesn’t have a name yet, like PrtScr/SysRq, Pause/Break, Play, Stop, Previous, Next, Menu, and many more.

Changes in version 2.41 are as follows:

  • NEW * Added a switch to let AllKeys ignore the qualifier from the numpad. A bug in OS4 makes the numpad qualifier stick for other multimedia keys if the numpad was the last to be used. (Didn’t test FEu3 yet, maybe it’s fixed.)

Screenshot from an older version by George Sokianos

In December last year, George Sokianos released a port of CatacombGL for AmigaOS 4. This year he is back once more with a new version, this time 0.5.7.

Catacomb 3D was originally released for PC back in 1991. It was developed by iD Software, Inc., known for classics like Wolfenstein 3D and Doom. It is a first-person fantasy shooter.

The port for AmigaOS 4 requires the original data files, which can be obtained from GOG (Good Old Games):

https://www.gog.com/en/game/catacombs_pack

Mr. Sokianos writes as follows on his Ko-fi page:

“A year ago, I ported to AmigaOS 4 the CatacombGL engine. That was a challenging port for me because it was the first one that I had to fight with endianess. It was not a perfect port, since it still had issues with the music and switching to full-screen, that I needed to resolve at some point. And that time is now.

I am delighted to say that today I released a new version of the port, having the music working fine. To enable the music, go to the menu and select AdLib for the music.

And finally, I included all the latest changes Arno Ansems did in the official repository.”

https://ko-fi.com/post/CatacombGL-0-5-7-release-B0B51PZQ0D

The changes for the new version of the port is as follows:

0.5.7 (2025-12-09)

  • Fixed the game music
  • Fixed the game being able to be played in full-screen
  • Updated to the latest upstream code

https://os4depot.net/?function=showfile&file=game/fps/catacombgl.lha

Version 1.1.2 of the first person shooter Ubek became available on OS4Depot on December 10th. There, we can read the following:

“Ubek is a remake of a commercial fps game released for classic Amiga in 1995 by Twink Spark Soft. The main idea behind the remake is to make it convenient and pleasing to play on modern systems, while preserving 100% of the original graphics, puzzles and story.

The main programmer, author of the original and remake is Szymon Ulatowski, Marek “Smakrusg” Glogowski helped in porting the game to AmigaOS 4. In addition, musicians Albert Czochara and Remigiusz Kolasa also contributed to the sound design of the Ubek. The game’s beta tester was Rafal Chyla, who also created the icons and helped prepare the documentation.”

Features of the new version include:

  • Modern high resolution, 60 fps
  • 3D hardware acceleration (using GL4ES)
  • Graphics improvements, including a better look for weapons or hero
characters (you can switch to classic mode, which looks like the 1995
    original)
  • New extended music setting and better sfx effects
  • Control enhancements – keyboard plus mouse or optional (tooltype option)
    gamepad using analog knobs
  • The location of the level exit is visible on the radar
  • Improvements in better weapon range and effectiveness
  • Hitting enemies partially visible around corners is now allowed (in the
old version, if the center of an enemy’s body was obscured by a wall, he
    was completely immune to hits).
  • Added safeguards against accidental destruction of critical objects
(e.g., keys) needed to complete a level.
  • Added option to quickly save and load
  • Many other minor fixes and improvements to make gameplay easier and the
    game better in general

Changelog

1.1.2
Added VGA and PAL mode in graphics options (pixel effect in the atmosphere of
the 1995 original).

A video of the game in action is available on YouTube thanks to Muf@:

We’ve seen many new games appearing on the platform this year, and amongst these is Dark Salvation from HunoPPC. As amiga-news.de reports, “The game Dark Salvation is an originally commercial gothic horror first-person shooter that was released for Windows in 2009 (Wikipedia) and has been available on itch.io since 2017, meanwhile free of charge.”

https://amiga-news.de/en/news/AN-2025-12-00047-EN.html

Wikipedia writes as follows:

“Dark Salvation is a gothic horror first-person shooter video game created by the now defunct American developer Mangled Eye Studios, released on July 28, 2009 for Microsoft Windows. The game follows the story of Talia, a young woman whose family is killed in the service of the demon Lucafix. After being trapped in his realm, she becomes possessed by the Spirit Crystal and must use its powers to escape from the underworld.”

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dark_Salvation

According to the website of HunoPPC, this game is for AmigaOS 4 EGL_wrap, SPE machine and MiniGL. For an SPE machine (A1222), a GPU with minimum 6 TFlops (RX480 with 8 GB works great!) is highly recommended.

The official website of the game is here:

https://mangledeyestudios.itch.io/dark-salvation

Maijestro of the Amiga Retro Channel has made a video of the game in action:

George Sokianos has released version 1.1.0 of Vault. He writes as follows:

“Vault is an application for AmigaOS 4.1 FE that helps users discover useful and well-tested applications for their systems, either if they are native PPC or 68k classic applications. Consider it as an application store, but with the minimal of the features.

Vault retrieves information from IntuitionBase.com and the “Featured software” section. The list of applications is the same.”

Features are as follows:

  • List of software grouped in nine different categories
  • Download and show a screenshot of each application, as well as information
  • Multiple links for the selected applications are listed, opening the equivalent URLs in system browser
  • It is possible to download applications.

A great tool, and maybe something for Hyperion Entertainment to consider including in the AmigaOS 4 OS? It would, in my opinion, be a helpful and valuable tool for people new to the platform, but also to others as well. 🙂

YouTuber TJ Ferreira has created a video showing Vault in action. 🙂

The AOS4 fans from Mars have once again travelled to Earth to bring us more software for our AmigaOS 4 setups. 🙂 Not many computer platforms can brag that they have support outside of Earth!

This time, they’ve filled their cargo space with the Flare game engine. Version 1.4 became available on OS4Depot on December 21st.

A list of game modules on the website of Flare – Screenshot by Puni

“Flare (Free Libre Action Roleplaying Engine) is a simple game engine built to handle a very specific kind of game: single-player 2D action RPGs. Flare is not a reimplementation of an existing game or engine. It is a tribute to and exploration of the action RPG genre.

Rather than building a very abstract, robust game engine, the goal of this project is to build several real games and harvest an engine from the common, reusable code.”

@mrmasterkeyboard @hexaheximal In terms of architectures I'm mostly limited by time, hardware that I have access to and toolchain support.

#OS1337 on #Xenon is quite low on the list but still not on the bottom because I have systems in my possession. Unlike "normal" #32bit #PowerPC systems.

  • Mind you I have exactly 0 "#PowerSaving" or other energy optimizations in _OS/1337 (or even multithreading) support built-in, which on most modern systems results in dogshit performance below rated base clock because modern CPUs and Chipsets expect the OS to communicate with them and if it doesn't they gonna assume the OS is fubar and drop into failsafe modes. With some luck they may even prevent the CPU from frying itself and turn on the fan on their own.

I don't have much hands-on aside from mainstream #ix86 / #x86 / #amd64 Systems and #ARMv5r11 / #ARM64 SBCs.

We got there in the end.

This took a couple of days to figure out how to boot custom code and even get away from Open Firmware’s tight clutches.

I hope that is proud of me for dealing with the bullshit of Open Firmware.

An iBook G3 running my test kernel code. It says “M4 Microkernel [Commit HEAD] PowerPC, built on Dec 27 2025 @ 21:30:27 Framebuffer: 0x9c008000 (1024 x 768) Open Firmware has been quiesced successfully.”A further away shot of the iBook G3, same text as before.

A silver Power Mac G4 Mirror Drive Doors tower sits on the left side of a desk next to a black and silver 5:4 Dell LCD monitor. The monitor shows Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger with a web browser open to the SpaceHey website (a modern version of the classic MySpace website) and the “About This Mac” window visible, listing Mac OS X version 10.4.11, a dual 1.25 GHz PowerPC G4 processor configuration, and 2 MB of L3 cache per processor. The wallpaper on the desktop is a tiger fur pattern, referencing the operating system codename “Tiger”. In front of the monitor is an Apple keyboard and an Apple mouse on the desk. The setup is in an unfinished basement with exposed wooden framing and pink insulation visible in the background. The lighting is low and warm, provided by a nearby desk lamp out of frame.

Ok fellow weirdos, even with all the magic #linux has to offer my daily driver laptop is reaching the end of it's usable life at 13 years. It wasn't all that capable to begin with. Problem is, I'm an obstinate weirdo and I am pathologically compelled to replace it with something weird. Maybe some ARM fun on an older apple silicone machine? But I swore off apple like a decade ago after some bad hardware experiences. I dunno. I miss #powerpc

@argv_minus_one You are way off, Windows the brand is 44 years old, but classic 3x/9x Windows and Windows NT are different lineages and ages. Also, OS X/macOS is its own platform, sure, it shares some history through NeXTStep. If you truly thing they are related, try running Concurrence on #PowerPC OS X or any app developed for NeXTStep, you can't. They are ancestors in some sense yes. You can't even run apps for PPC OS X on #Apple Silicon.

The hardware for my fantasy PowerPC console (that is how it's done, right?), renamed "Bobcat", has all arrived!

Now the only things I need are the JTAG debugger (this board has _no_ removable media or drive ports, only an EEPROM and some flash) and some motivation.

...and also lots of luck, because the last time I touched JTAG was 20 years ago, for a 68k assembly course. -_-;

AmigaOS 4 Monthly Roundup – November 2025

Introduction

Hi there,

Welcome to a new monthly roundup of AmigaOS 4 news!

Thank you for visiting my blog and for checking out this article. Hope you’ll enjoy the read!

Last month, in the October edition, I wrote that it would be hard to top all the news and information presented that month. Well, I might have been wrong, because it turns out that after a very busy October, the community had an extra gear to set in…

Yes, November was another fantastic month for our platform! The developers and content creators have been very, very busy, and we can see the results below. A big thank you to all of you!

As for hardware, we know that the Mirari project is making progress. What will next year bring? I’m optimistic, that’s for sure!

Thanks again, and enjoy the roundup! 🙂

Software News

Steffen Häuser is back with a game port, this time of the first-person shooter Serious Sam TFE/TSE!

The port includes:

  • Binaries for Serious Sam “The First Encounter”
  • Binaries for Serious Sam “The Second Encounter”
  • Binaries for Serious Sam “The First Encounter” Demo Version
  • Installer so that you can directly install from the CD or Steam, or Gog Version data (Steam/Gog needs preinstall on PC, CD-Version can be installed directly on the Amiga from the CD)
  • Both MiniGL and GL4ES are supported (Demo Version only supports MiniGL)

https://os4depot.net/?function=showfile&file=game/fps/serioussam.lha

Maijestro of the Amiga Retro Channel on YouTube has created a video showing the gameplay. The video is available below. Enjoy! 🙂

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8HYYQBHq9YU

On the Polski Portal Amigowy, we can read that a remake of Ubek is coming soon to AmigaOS 4! This is thanks to the cooperation between Szymon Ulatowski and Marek Glogowski in this project. A video showing the game running on an AmigaOne X5000 has been released:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=az97mNH0ll8

The news can be found here:

A new version of Dir Me Up has been released! This program allows users to explore and manipulate files, links, and drawers of their Amiga. This time it is also available for AmigaOS 3.2 RTG. Please visit the official homepage for more information:

http://glames.online.fr/products/dirmeup.html

Fredrik Wikstrom, Scott A. Cabit, and Ryan Dixon have released version 1.4 of AmigaKeyRemapper. This program lets the user remap qualifier keys. The changes from the previous version is that it now accepts multiple arguments and allows Caps Lock to be mapped to CTRL.

https://os4depot.net/?function=showfile&file=utility/misc/keyremapper.lha

DRIDI has released version 14.5Final of the Arabic Console Device. Changes are as follows:

(version 14.5Final) “Version education&legacy” finished (I hope) – stevie[edit.c] –
Big regression fixed (one letter + <return> will clear it).

A game running on the EasyRPG Player – Screenshot by Puni

Do you enjoy playing role-playing games? If yes, then you should be happy to read that version 0.6.2.3 of the EasyRPG Player is now available on AmigaOS 4!

This program allows you to play games created with RPG Maker 2000 and 2003, of which there are quite many available, and some of them look very interesting.

For more information, I recommend you check out their website at https://easyrpg.org/.

For downloading the EasyRPG Player, please click on the link below to OS4Depot:

https://os4depot.net/?function=showfile&file=game/roleplaying/easyrpg.lha

McFly PPC has created a video showing it in action:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qhN8WqYntbA

Like ScummVM, the EasyRPG Player opens up a whole new range of games for the platform!

HexView is a utility to view a file in hexadecimal way. It has been developed by Tjitte “OldFart” de Wolff. Version 3.0 is now available.

Here are the changes since the previous version:

V3.0 (November 2025)
Introduces some kind of ‘tabbed browsing’ (or better: chooser-controlled browsing) through a list of opened files
*** switching between opened files may be too fast to be noticed! ***
Trying to load a file for the second time, will result in showing the already available version (this can be noticed by the entry number not being ‘1’)
Lets you save either full qualified path or directory to the clipboard
Introduces keyboard shortcuts for controlling the listbrowser
Overall, HexView has gained considerable increase in speed
As HexView sports a screen of its own, ‘Iconification’ and all the virtues coming with it are no longer available (makes little sense)

https://os4depot.net/?function=showfile&file=utility/workbench/hexview.lha

Apart from this, he also released version 2.0 of the utility AlignWindows. This is a Workbench tool that you can use to stack windows. More information is available here:

https://os4depot.net/?function=showfile&file=utility/workbench/alignwindows.lha

Amiga-news.de reports that Rene Olsen ” (…) provides templates with his ‘AmigaOS 4 Skeletons’ that are designed to make it easier for developers to create their own libraries and device drivers.” More information is available on their website here and over on GitHub.

HunoPPC strikes back with a new game release! This time it is a port of Cannonball, an Outrun engine for AmigaOS 4. We can read the following on his website:

“CannonBall is an souped up game engine for the OutRun arcade game. The original 68000 and Z80 assembler code has been rewritten in C++. This makes it possible to make improvements suitable for modern platforms, including a higher frame-rate and widescreen support. It requires the original ROMs, as these contain elements including the graphics and audio data.”

As for OutRun, I believe it does not need much introduction, since this is a title familiar to most who is active on the Amiga. 🙂 The classic Amiga version was released back in 1989, and according to reviewers on Lemon Amiga, it was not very good.

https://www.lemonamiga.com/game/out-run

The AmigaOS 4 version, however, should be in a completely different league… 😉

It is worth mentioning that a special version for the A1222+ is available.

Speaking of which, here is a video of Cannonball – OutRun running on the A1222+, courtesy of Mr. Byte.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ypNtPdak9-w&t=92s

Another game port recently released is Disasteroids 3D. It was brought to the platform by “AOS4 fans from Mars”. A very original team name, to say the least! It is nice that we have interplanetary support in the community! 😉

Image lent from the website of HunoPPC

Anyway, this is an OpenGL remake of an Asteroids game ThomW wrote back in the year 2000. ThomW writes on itch.io:

Disasteroids 3D was a personal research project to learn how to write simple games using Visual C++ and OpenGL. Programming started on February 16,2000, and the game rapidly took shape. I had a rough game that was playable in less than a week, and since that time, I’ve added a lot of cool effects to make the game more polished.

The game features:

OpenGL 3D graphics
DirectSound support
DirectInput support for joysticks and force-feedback devices
A very low sticker price (it’s free)
I owe a great deal of thanks to Jeff Molofee of nehe.gamedev.net for his OpenGL base code, as well as his encouragement throughout the project. Without his help, Disasteroids 3D wouldn’t have even been started.

I hope this game serves as an inspiration to anyone out there who has wanted to program a game to go ahead and do it.

The AmigaOS 4 version is now available to download from the website of HunoPPC:

https://hunoppc.amiga-projects.net/content/disasteroids-3d-fore-amigaos4-aos4-fans-mars

Looks fun!

Asum from Patrik Axelsson and K-P Koljonen is a very fast MD5 checksum tool. It uses highly optimized PPC MD5 code.

https://os4.aminet.net/package/util/misc/asum

Patrik Axelsson also released version 1.0 of NOP-Handler. He writes:

“This handler serves reads and writes instantly, without touching the data. Additionally, the size can be specified. This is useful for performance testing, as it can be used to remove the overhead of the underlaying I/O solution.”

https://os4.aminet.net/package/util/misc/NOP-Handler

Chris Young has released version 3.2 of Avalanche, a ReAction unarchive GUI for xfd/xadmaster. Please check out Aminet for the download.

https://os4.aminet.net/package/util/arc/avalanche

HunoPPC has made an update for Me and My Shadow, a platform game. This time, there are two versions available, one for fast AmigaOS 4 systems and one for A1222+ SPE. More information, as well as the download, is available here:

https://hunoppc.amiga-projects.net/content/me-and-my-shadow-ng

Here is the official trailer for the game:

From amiga-news.de comes news about the Boulder Dash clone Diamonds and Dust by Juha Niemimäki, which is now available for download from OS4Depot.

Screenshot by Puni Screenshot by Puni

Please have a look here for more information.

https://www.amiga-news.de/en/news/AN-2025-11-00023-EN.html

The goal of the game is to collect diamonds while avoiding enemies, poison, and falling objects. I’ve heard talk about a possible games competition on Amigans.net in this game, which should be fun if it happens. 🙂

Another piece of news from amiga-news.de is that more Collector’s Edition boxes for The Settlers 2 will become available. A press release from Look Behind You about this can be found via the link below:

https://www.amiga-news.de/en/news/AN-2025-11-00037-EN.html

Daniel Westerberg of OnyxSoft has released the Amiga Development Environment ++. According to the official website, here are the features:

“This release of the ADE package comes preinstalled with:

  • GCC 3.4.0 (and all its bugs, see NOTES-3.4.0)
  • NDK3.9 includes with working inlines for 3.4.0, and autodocs.
  • MUI38dev with working includes and autodocs.
  • The two most used MUI MCCs: TextEditor and NList includes and autodocs.
  • newmouse.h for mouse wheel and 4th, 5th mouse buttons.
  • SDI includes for multi-amigaos-development.

I put this package together since I was missing a complete package
that can build MUI applications like Annotate for 68k.”

https://onyxsoft.se/ade_ndk_mui.html

Doug Bakewell (original author) and Daniel Westerberg (maintainer and successor) have released version 3.1.1 of Annotate, a comprehensive text editor written for AmigaOS 3.0 and up, and ported to AmigaOS 4.

Amongst its features are syntax highlighting with links to autodocs, multi-file search, can use screens, printing, macros, and much more!

Please follow the link below for more information about the program and for the download link.

https://os4depot.net/?function=showfile&file=utility/text/edit/annotate.lha

LiveForIt has been working hard on improving E-UAE on AmigaOS 4. According to the documentation on OS4Depot, 10 years have passed since the last release! He now thought it was time to do another release, containing changes that have happened in the background for quite some time. The new version, 1.1.2, contains the improvements:

  • Auto center window in AmigaGFX mode
  • New console_output option
  • On full-screen mode, now use window size to find a screen mode that matches.
  • AGA might be a little faster, (Edge detection, scanline change check, code unrolled)
  • In early early pre-alfa AHI driver support.. (Is not recommended to install.)

https://os4depot.net/?function=showfile&file=emulation/computer/uae.lha

It’s great to see E-UAE getting some attention on AmigaOS 4!

Now for even more gaming-related news! Yes, if all those above were not enough to satisfy your thirst for gaming, then this one should help. 🙂 This is Open Geometry Wars for AmigaOS 4.1 FE!

Open Geometry Wars aims to be an extremely faithful recreation of Geometry Wars Retro Evolved.

https://sourceforge.net/projects/opengw/

George Sokianos writes the following on his Ko-Fi page:

Today, I released a new port of the Open Geometry Wars for AmigaOS 4.1, which was created more than 10 years ago by Peter Hirschberg.

As the original developer mentions:

“Open Geometry Wars aims to be an extremely faithful recreation of Geometry Wars Retro Evolved.

Since then, the code was maintained by Juha (capehill) Niemimäki, and was ported by BeWorld and papiosaur to MorphOS. So I thought to give it a try and port it to Amiga OS4 as well.

(…)

OpenGW is a great and fun game, especially for game contests, like the ones we run at amigans.net. Hope to see people having a round of it in the future.”

Please follow the link below to visit his Ko-Fi page to read more:

https://ko-fi.com/post/opengw-released-for-AmigaOS-4-1-I2I61OY0AW

Once again, we turn to Maijestro of the Amiga Retro Channel, who has created a video of this game in all its glory:

The Blastaway games competition on Amigans.net is coming to an end.

At the moment it looks like Walkero will take away the victory trophy, closely followed by Tuvok. At the bottom of the list, you will find yours truly. 😉 Yep, no whopping score from me this time! But, I will do better (I hope) in the contest for December. If you want to join in the fun, please head over to the games competition sections at Amigans for some AmigaOS 4 gaming action!

This is a gift for all of you who love AmigaOS and my work, but hate subscriptions. You can now get it all for a one time fee. Yours forever.”

Getting System 7.5 natively booting on a G4 Mac is impressive enough…

...but what truly blows my mind is that on the same hardware, the author managed to get System 6.0.8 as far as a Happy Mac, and Systems 7.0/7.1 to a "not supported on this computer" dialog.

The fact that the ROM manages to get that far at all, instead of a black screen or sad mac is bonkers, considering that the processor architecture (and the rest of the hardware) is completely different from anything that would be understood by that era of OS. It's relying on the 68k emulator built-in to the ROM.

Driver support notwithstanding, I wonder how low could you go if you took the resources from the CHRP system enabler and brought them over into the System file directly? Since 6.x and early 7.x didn't support enablers.
