On February 20, 1992, #JohnSingleton became the first African-American and the youngest person ever to be nominated for an Academy Award for Best Director for his film Boyz N the Hood. Singleton was 24 at the time.
In 2002, the United States Library of Congress deemed the film "culturally significant" and selected it for preservation in the National Film Registry.
