Hawaii's Byodo-In

After breakfast at the Sheraton Waikiki, we had lunch and picked up a rental car. We visited Byodo-in, a replica Japanese temple at the Valley of the Temples. We drove around area a bit before heading to get poke from Tamura's. We spent some time at Kailua Beach Park before attending a wedding in the evening.

Another recent shot, from our Hawaii trip in February, this common myna was in the beach park at Kailua. Shot with the Canon R7 and the RF 100-400mm that I bought used from MPB just before the trip (also just sold my old EF 75-300mm back to them, and they paid me more than the original estimate - check them out).

Black and brown feathered bird in the grass. Has a bright yellow beak, and similar yellow around its eye. The feathers on the top of its head are slightly ruffled by the breeze, giving it a spiky hair look.

If I were going to have a favorite beach, it would be this one. I love the color of the water. May be a better day for a beach walk than a swim.

Here’s a great example of why it is important not to leave plastic trash lying around. This common myna bird seems very proud of its “catch” but that plastic bag really isn’t something it should be trying to eat.
