Over the last couple of days, I have been watching a number of online videos demonstrating the art of letter cutting. I found the carving of serif letters and their end results particularly pleasing. I hope the techniques, expertise, and mastery that humans have developed over many centuries in this craft is not lost in the rush for automation.

Whilst I'm laid up with the lurgy I thought I'd put together selection of work from 2024.Losing Stanley was devasting but I know he had the best life. Making Nelson the Chameleon was great fun and being asked to carve an old friend in stone was a real privilege. I'm very glad I invested in some big #woodworking machines when I moved into my current studio, BIG tools mean I can make BIG stuff! The #oak platter is 16" in diameter and was post lettercut after turning, the composite #walnut blank is currently on the lathe - 15' long 10" dia. - finished pics will hopefully follow tomorrow eve! The Lucas acetylene #bicycle lamp is just for scale! #woodturning #lettercutting
