Menzies wouldn’t recognise today’s Liberals. They would denounce him as ‘woke’. #auspol #LibSpill

Well, it will take a little longer than planned, but Well Done, Angus.

Congratulations, Jacinta.

We'll soon see the back of #Sussan and #NukedTed as there is a #LibSpill as a result of the #LibNatBreakup and a new party room vote.

Probably post 1 July when the new senate arrives, with a few Sussan votes departing on June 30.

That will swing the #Libs further to the right, so they'll be closer to the #nats but both will be damaged by the #LibNatBreakup. Sure, they'll have sloppy sex with the ex in the Prayer room, before attempting a trial reconciliation, but they're a spent force.

Yay, now the Liberal Party will become the Libberal Parrty and have to respect preferred names 🤣🤣

I see the #Crumbmaiden has defeated #SideshowBob for the #Liberal leadership.

I wonder how long that lasts before the constant undermining and backstabbing leads to a #Libspill. The conservatives have form when a centrist leader tries to plot a middle/right road - cf Turnbull circa 2015-2018.

never thought of michelle grattan as one for understatement 😂
-_ the headline probably says it all

<<Despite all the disincentives, Sussan Ley, 63, and Angus Taylor, 58, both want this thankless post that’s up for grabs at Tuesday’s party meeting>>

but also… some stuff about the greens
<<On the projected results, the Greens are set to be the sole negotiators with the government in the Senate on legislation opposed by the Coalition.>>

Dan Tehan has dropped out of contention for Liberal leadership. So it really is down to Susssssssan Ley the stupidest person in the Liberal party, or Angus Taylor who isn't in politics to accomplish anything, just fill his families offshore-tax-haven-held pockets. #AusPol #Spill #LibSpill #ItsOn

Early vote counting tonight suggests Peter Dutton's political career is about to end.

The Spud is cooked.

Peter Dutton has little hope of retaining his seat of Dickson, and even if he does, his role as Leader of the Opposition is gone.

The kiss of death has come already from Senator James "Freedom Boy" Paterson, who has a peculiar way of showing support.

It's on!
LIBSPILL!

Projection based on preference count for the seat of Dickson.
Labor Party, Ali France, Vote: 53.4%
Liberal National Party, Peter Dutton, 46.6%Screenshot from Guardian article. Text reads:

Liberal senator James Paterson has appeared to back Peter Dutton’s leadership of the opposition in the event the Coalition loses the election.

Paterson, speaking to Channel 9’s Peter Stefanovic from the Liberals’ election night event in Brisbane, said this when asked about Peter Dutton’s leadership:

I’m very proud to have served Peter in this term of Parliament. He’s a great man. You know him, I know him. He’s a really good person and he always puts the national interest first. So if he wants to continue to serve in public life in any capacity, I’d welcome that.

Paterson also said it was too early to jump to conclusions, and that the Coalition’s internal polling suggests there can be as much as an 8% difference between on the day votes and pre-poll votes, with the latter form favouring the Coalition.

Paterson also had this to say of the Labor campaign in Dickson, where Dutton appears to be in trouble:

Labor absolutely went for Peter in this campaign. More than any campaign previously. They poured in an enormous amount of money and he also had Climate 200 funding a candidate to try and tear him down, plus a national advertising campaign from Labor in the tens of millions of dollars. It was very personal and very targeted to him. So, look, I’m not surprised if that has an effect.
