I'm afraid I never said I'd open source this piece of code. The #moc3 code was open-sourced from beginning but the #cmo3 code is not. Considering the time and effort I have spent on that (much more than moc3) it's not an easy decision for me to open-source that for now.

If you want to prove you can do some real original work (better than "a deeply flawed and potentially unfixable piece of software") other than that unsuccessful "CVE", go ahead and make an open-source one by yourself. However, it's obvious that your "100% legal, FOSS reimplementation of Cubism Core" won't be able to clone cmo3 implementation because with basic inspection of cmo3 you'd have realized it's just a simple serialization of Java objects, while your OpenL2D - if it's not a simple clone of inochi - was not written in Java but D (just like #inochi).

And I think you already know you don't have to clone cmo3 if you really want to make your L2D system. You can make your own project format (if it's not .inx), as long as you can compile the project file to a moc3 file. I have no idea why you'd be interested in moc3 to cmo3. Try finding another "CVE"? You won't need this, either.

Why would anyone go through all this trouble, just for an inferior 2D model ?

No thank you. I'll stick to MMD and vrm.
Maybe if Mannequin Tool finally allows png import and rigging it in the program.
As it currently stands it s not suitable.
Inochi same thing.
And Live2D Cubism ?
It's like being expected to pay for Krita when iBisPaint and CSP are just around the corner.

I'd rather write a webrenderer that pretends to load mmd in a live2d esque manner.
And that will work 100% better and not be limited to straight forward viewing angels

Live2D and consorts all require you to create specific part views for each head movement.
It's basically what #RARE did for #DonkeyKongCountry on the #SNES.
Take a 3D model and make a photo for each state.
Also rig every part of it.
Not very. good.

#Live2D ? More like no no no.
3D is better than 2d. mostly. for this kind of thing.

In the end. A 2D Model requires waaaay more rigging than a 3d one, as you need to #puppet warp, every. dang. piece.
Hairstrand, clothing part. eyelid, everything.
What 3D, #MikuMIkuDance and #vroid do with a few bones and blendshapes for face features, this needs to emulate painstakingly.

i see no adavantage.
And yes. You can emulate the "2D" look in 3D with shaders. So please, tell me why this "2D" thing is relevant again ?
