Tantalisingly close to finishing a sock (my first ever!) on a round loom.. but I lost yarn chicken and have to wait untill I can buy more of the same.
It's a tube sock with ribbed cuff and as I used a loom, that somehow ~feels~ like cheating?* even though I am definitely a beginner and only just realised the pattern is apparently advanced đđ

Tilanne on muuttunut. Toisiksi pienin kehikko onkin hieman liian iso sÀÀrystimien tekemiseen. En kuitenkaan purkanut työtÀ, vaan teenkin tÀstÀ tavallisen kaulaliinan. TÀstÀ tulee putkimainen, mutta ainakin tulisi olemaan lÀmmin.
Teen tÀtÀ triplalangalla ja "ainaoikee" ei onnistunutkaan. U-silmukat ei ole ongelma, purl eli nurja on. Triplalangalla se on huomattavasti vaikeampaa ja työlÀÀmpÀÀ. PÀÀdyin tekemÀÀn pelkÀstÀÀn e-silmukoita.
Teen kyllÀ sÀÀrystimet, mutta sitten kun tuo kÀmmekÀs on valmis ja kehikko vapautuu. SÀÀrystimiin pitÀÀ vaihtaa eri langat sitten.
Toinen kÀmmekÀs on jo hyvÀssÀ vaiheessa. Paitsi, ettÀ lanka pÀÀsi loppumaan. PitÀÀ ostaa yksi kerÀ lisÀÀ ja puolittaa se kahdeksi pieneksi palloksi. EnempÀÀ ei tarvita.
SillÀ vÀlin voisin aloittaa sÀÀrystimien teko ja tÀllÀ kertaa "ainaoikeaa" neuletta pinnalle. TÀssÀ työssÀ kÀyttÀisin u-silmukoita ja nurjia silmukoita. Samalla voisin tuhota noita vanhoja Nalle-lankoja. PitÀÀ testata teenkö tuplalangalla vai tripla.

Loom knitting is great for learners! I learned loom knitting before I learned needle-knitting. It's particularly good for knitting in the round.
The reason why your stitches are twisted is because you are doing (I assume) the "e-wrap" version of the knit stitch, where you wrap the yarn around the back of the peg, to the front, and then around the back again, thus crossing the yarn over itself. That isn't the only method; there are three other methods of knit-stitch which result in a non-twisted stitch.
1. Flat.
With this method, rather than wrapping the yarn around the peg before pulling the old stitch over, you just hold the yarn flat in front of the peg, and then pull the old stitch over.
This is the most straightforward, but it also results in very tight tension, and makes it difficult to pull the old stitch over the new stitch, since it is very tight.
2. U-wrap.
With this method, you half-wrap the peg, by holding the yarn in front of the peg, then to the back and the side (making a sideways "U"). Then you pull the old stitch over the new stitch, and then you move the working yarn around to the front again.
This gives more slack and a looser tension to the stitch, which makes the stitching easier to do.
3. Full knit (or "pull through").
This method is the closest one in structure to needle-knitting. With this method, rather than pulling the old stitch over the new yarn, you take your pick-tool and put it up through the old stitch (bottom to top) and use it to grab the new yarn and pull it down through the old stitch to make a new loop, then you pull the old stitch off the peg and put the new stitch onto the peg.
This method has the loosest tension of them all, but is more fiddly to do, so it tends to be the least popular method. But it is exactly the reverse of the purl stitch.
I have a secret mission to try and get my 5-year-old niece into knitting. I think she might be a bit too young to handle actual knitting needles, but over Christmas we tried out finger knitting and she really liked it. I think with finger knitting you can only really make a long worm. Once the worm scarf was done she got a bit over ambitious and she wanted to make the worm into a hat for her dolls and staple a pompom onto it but that obviously didnât work out and she got a bit frustrated. So I thought the next time I see her maybe we could try loom knitting. Iâve never done it before so I made this little hat to try and learn it so I can show her how later on. Itâs quite fun! I wanted to avoid doing any ribbing because it looks like purling is really fiddly on the loom and instead I just made a long tube and then joined the two ends together by putting the bottom stitches back on the loom and passing the loops over. Then I just passed a thread through all the stitches and pulled it tight to make the top. That way thereâs literally only one stitch to learn, so no purling or decreases necessary. Even the caston method is really simple. I think she already knows how to make pompoms too. We could probably do the whole thing in an afternoon.
I noticed that if you do the knitting the way the instructions tell you you end up with twisted stitches. I guess that is ok because the pegs on the loom are really far apart and it sort of forces you to have a really loose gauge so maybe the twisting will help make it a little bit tighter.

Mulla on 2 kerÀÀ "chunky"vahvuista villalankaa. Kaverina silkki-mohair.
Aloin työstÀmÀÀn pipoa 41 tappisella kehikolla. Kokeilin ensin yksinkertaisella langalla, mutta tuosta tulee enemmÀnkin tuubihuivi kuin pipo. PitÀÀ purkaa ja vaihtaa kehikko 36 tappiseen ja työstÀÀ pipo tupla-chunkyna.
Nyt sujuu nurjatkin silmukat. Resoriosuus oli mukavan nopea ja helppo tehdÀ. VielÀ pitÀÀ harjoitella kÀsialaa. En hahmota tÀysin miten langan kireys pitÀisi olla. Kokeilin löysÀÀ ja langan omaa luontaista kireyttÀ. Mutta sen tiedÀn, ettei se suoraan tuosta heti nÀy onko edelleen liian kireÀÀ.
TÀytyy vain jatkaa ja luottaa siihen, ettÀ harjoitus auttaa tÀssÀkin asiassa.

@disabledknitters I may finish one last pair of grip muffs for the walker this year (it's getting frosty where I live).𧶠Two different colours since I'm using left overs from Lana Grossa Basta but warm and that's important.
