In northern England, tonight (4th November) is Mischief Night, a time for vandalism, disorder and pranks. In other parts of England and the States, it tends to take place on the night before Halloween. Mischief Night stunts have included writing rude words on signs, setting off fireworks, toilet-papering yards and buildings, and egging or powder-bombing cars, people and homes. In Detroit, it is known as Devil's Night and the pranks can go as far as arson - thousands of police and residents patrol the streets to try to limit the disorder.
