Something I'm noticing more and more with the ever-increasing size of modern cars is how long it takes to park. Plenty of spaces in the hospital car park this morning, but a long queue to get in because it takes people SO LONG to squeeze their wannabe-humvees into the parking spaces. I don't think it's just down to the size, either. I think more and more people are relying on the car tech to get them in rather than just, I dunno, parking like a competent driver.

Drivers were caught doing more than 90mph in this 30 zone, with an average of more than 40. There should have been mass protest about this lawlessness, if people's commitment to traffic law and order as evidenced by comments on cyclists running red lights is anything to go by. But no.

I am SO FUCKING TIRED of the excuses made for aggressive, even violent drivers, just because their victim is a cyclist and their weapon of choice is a motor vehicle.
If you got into an argument with someone, then went after them with a baseball bat, no one would say you were a "decent individual."
So wirkt gefährliche Infrastruktur: Der Fahrrad-Schutzstreifen wurde in den Türbereich von geparkten Fahrzeugen hinein markiert, so dass sich unerfahrene Radfahrende dort selbst in Lebensgefahr bringen.
Die verbleibende Fahrbahn ist dann aber immer noch zu schmal, um mit dem PKW legal mit 1,5m Seitenabstand zu überholen. Wird aber trotzdem dauernd gemacht.
Formal sind jedoch leider alle mir bekannten Regeln für das Anbringen von Verkehrszeichen eingehalten worden. Der Bereich des Schutzstreifens müsste aber vielmehr vergleichbar wie eine Sperrfläche markiert werden. Dann fahren die unerfahrenen Radfahrenden mit ausreichend Abstand zu den geparkten Fahrzeugen und mit dem Auto ist klar kein Überholen möglich.

Ich lerne selbst auch immer noch dazu - da ist ja nichts Schlimmes dran.
Ganz allgemein bestehen aber riesige Bildungslücken rund um die Grundlagen der Regeln zum Radverkehr.
Konkret: Manche korrekte Fahrweise mit dem Fahrrad fühlt sich nur deshalb falsch an, weil regelwidrige oder selbstgefährdende Fahrweisen so regelmäßig von Menschen mit Auto oder LKW erwartet und / oder aufgezwungen werden, dass es viele Radfahrende gar nicht mehr als falsch wahrnehmen.

demanding more restrictive speed governors on #ebikes while these are completely absent on much bigger and deadlier cars is just fueling this ebike #moralpanic and #motornormativity.
yes, it can be stressful for a slow biker when a faster biker drives close by, and it can be difficult to overtake a cargobike on a narrow bikepath, but instead of punching down, how about we focus on the shared enemy that is causing bicycles to be crammed together at the edge of the road: those bloody cars, with no speed governor what-so-ever.

the article in #theguardian place the responsibility on a "minority rightwing voices" that are somehow forcing the ecoconcious majority to eat #pigs and drive #cars despite not really wanting to.
did they swap your #tofu with pig sausages in your shopping basket or your fridge? did they hypnotize you to buy a #tesla against your will instead of an #ebike?
in my view, a much more likely answer is a hypocritical mentality of "everyone else are the problem", which would also explain the underestimated support for green policies.

often there is a direct connection of conscience laundering between supporting abstract policies while opposing actual tangible action right in front of us: we fill our plates with sausages made from pigs choked in a #gaschamber while me claim to support policies better #animalwelfare.

In 2024 there was one fatality after a pedestrian / bike collision - in the entire UK.
Meanwhile 265 pedestrians died after being hit by a car.
So why was there huge focus on bikes using this one #Edinburgh street, but little about the vehicles using it?

Es sagt viel über die gesellschaftliche Haltung zum Autoverkehr, wenn man sich bemüßigt fühlt, herausstellen zu müssen, dass ein Sprengstoffanschlag eine schwere Straftat ist.
Wenn Autoverkehr nicht klarkommt und andere gefährdet, dann müssen Fußgänger inkl. Kinderwagen- und Rollatorschiebern oder Rollstuhlfahrer sich auch in dicht besiedelten Gebieten einschränken. 🤷♀️
