@BikeMag @bike-mag-BikeMag Actually, this turns out just to be a case of really bad writing.
The actual bill isn't so bad. It includes an existing definition of "electric bicycle" as having a motor under 750 watts (though unfortunately it also has a silly requirement of operable pedals: why is this required for an #eBike but not for a scooter?)
The BikeMag article omitted this part, claiming that anything under 3,750 watts would be a moped.

@BikeMag @bike-mag-BikeMag This proposed California law sounds nearly as bad as the NJ one. Any motor at all gets a #bike classified as a moped, so it requires a driver's license (and is therefore completely illegal for kids) -- even if it can't go any faster than pedal-bike speeds and doesn't weigh any more than a non-e bike.
This isn't about banning e-motos like the magazine claims, it's about severely restricting ALL ebikes.

Trötis 2012-erMotor bringt mich den Berg rauf, ja. Leichter als ohne, aber es bleibt eine sportliche Herausforderung. Eigentlich gefällt mir das ganz gut. Unser Berg ist nun Teamwork und ich hab weiter Training, ohne aber völlig erschöpft hier oben anzukommen. Hurra.

Hab's gekauft! Noch glaube ich, einen richtig guten Fang gemacht zu haben. Rad blitzt und ist vollständig neuwertig, und der nette alte Herr, der es verkauft hat, hat mir noch einen nigelnagelneuen Helm und ebenso neue Klick-Radtaschen dazu geschenkt. Er war froh, dass alles genutzt werden wird. Unsicherheit für mich bleibt die Reichweite. Akku neu und ungenutzt, aber 2012 gab's nichtmal ein Display mit Reichweitenanzeige 🙈 (Bild 2), also abwarten.

Definitely becoming more of a fair-weather-cyclist as I get older. But with the weather nicer it beats the car.
Our #cargobike is a car-replacement, 32km in an hour and a half converts to averaging 13mph. With stops, that's not much slower than a car but always much more fun.
As always, a few chumps hating on people making better transport choices but haters gonna hate so best ignored.
Hope for more spring days like today so can do more in-house #cycle deliveries.

For how much abuse these bikes are designed to take, these are all good tradeoffs. But it turns out that these bikes also have an exceptionally low center of gravity, which could make them useful for drag racing, <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3s2_pcSodMc" target="_blank">provided they’re given a suitably large electric motor and a few minor frame modifications</a>.</p>
<p>The project began as a fun weekend project for friends [Sam Barker] and [Tom Stanton]. They had a 20″ BMX wheel with a massive integrated hub motor that seemed to be begging to be put onto a BMX bike that they had on hand. After hooking up a 72V, 20Ah battery to it they were quickly zipping around the driveway, but the short wheelbase on the bike was bottlenecking its maximum performace because the bike would wheelie under high throttle. To solve that, they broke out the welder and extended frame, which kept the wheelies to a minimum and allowed them to take it out and drag race.</p>
