Is #MycroftAI dead?
#OpenSource
yes I've used #OpenVoiceOS on my Mycroft 2 although I'm now using #NeonAI which
makes use of #Ovos .. I'd say it's fine and interesting, if a bit experimental.
My test bed Mycroft / OpenVoiceOS installation is coming alongnicely. It's frustrating that MycroftAI's excellent online portal for managing skills and settings disappeared with the demise of the company. But I'm encouraged by the onscreen developments OVOS has inherited from Mycroft II.
Does anyone have a recent, stable image for PiCroft (the raspberry pi image of Mycroft assistant) the links are all dead on the Mycroft site.
@franko Yes, the Mk2 does seem a bit pricey. I looked on eBay but they don't seem to have made it onto there yet. You can just download the software onto a 'puter if you want to just test the principle of the thing. It's all open source. #foss #fosh #mycroftai
For now the original SW seems to be a dead end.
The control center at the mycroft.ai account page doesn't let me install skills and even the settings of skills don't work (anymore).
My Mark 2 with the original #mycroftai software is at least usable but very limited in it's possibilities.
I was trying #mycroftai Mark 2 for the last couple of days.
The experience bringing the original software (Dinkum) online is straightforward and works like a charm.
You start the device, it asks you to join the wireless station named "Mycroft" where you can add your preferred WiFi credentials. You need to create an account at mycroft.ai first to be able to pari the device.
Afterwards you are able to control your Mark 2 using a web interface at mycroft.ai.
Have you had a look at #mycroftai ? I haven't used it personally, but always thought it was worth looking into.
It finally arrived, my own #mycroftai Mark II device.
After the Kickstarter campaign in 2018 I lost my money, but decided to go for it anyways.
I ordered a device in march this year and this is what I got.
I will share my experiences with @mycroft_ai Mark II as I'm getting it to use.
But first let's see what is in the box...
@nick0515@linuxrocks.online I tried setting up the #MycroftAI extension for Gnome Shell on Arch a while back without any luck. Didn't give it much effort, though. Last time I looked into the Android app it required an external server. I own a Mark I and would love to see the core progress.
i'm no fan of amazon, but some of my friends have amazon echo-type devices, and seeing them makes me wish there was some way to get #mycroftai on them, because they look like they're fairly well designed.

So sad to hear that #mycroftai is shutting down operations. I really loved the idea of a voice assistant that was local only. Kinda also wondering what this means for the #HomeAssistant Year of the Voice. #FOSS #opensource #fossdev #payfossdevs
With the death of #Mycroft AI, I'm wondering if anyone'll run with the open source for easily creating your own. The software for the next generation's been published and worked on via Github, so wouldn't surprise me, especially with an add-on for @homeassistant as an alternative to the Genie one that I can't seem to get working and the Google Assistant SDK you can't get a device ID for now. #homeautomation #mycroftai
This is unfortunate news. Those of us that backed it get nothing. #mycroftai

My #MycroftAI Mark II's have shipped!
Can't believe I ordered four of the #OpenSource #Privacy-Focused #VoiceAssistant
I think I specced them differently back then, final shipping model is all the high spec version!

@Beerbruin I really want to love #mycroftai. And I hope I do some day, but boy is it hard to get up and running. Still wish for an easy install on #Android or #Linux.
@tylerb @evacide I was extremely unimpressed with the original #MycroftAI. But they reworked the entire thing including the hardware and re-launched like last week.
I watched a couple videos and for the price it still doesn't look like much...
