Just been to see "Grace: A Prayer For Peace" at , a very powerful and moving film

More about Robin White (Ngāti Awa) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robin_Wh

Just managed to squeak in two tech free hours on #NoTechDayNZ by going to a two hour film at #NZIFF - my first time seeing Hard Boiled (stylish fun, but awfully blasé about human collateral damage).

Consternation abounds as I arrive at a cinema I've never been into before, for the #WhānauMārama #NZIFF screening of local short films - Ngā Whanaunga: Aotearoa New Zealand’s Best 2025 (Programme One), to discover that the seat number on my ticket doesn't exist.

I had no idea there was a theatrette in the building behind the war memorial carillon. Commendably, there's a gap in row I for cinemagoers in wheelchairs, but the ticketing system hasn't taken that into account and I'm now sitting in I-16 though my ticket says I-8. Phew!

Kokuho might be the pick of the 10 recommendations at the sneak peak event. I’m going to some of that list anyway but this looks like a must see. #NZIFF #filmsky www.nziff.co.nz/2025/otepoti...

Whānau Mārama: Kokuho

This afternoon at 2pm in Ōtepoti. At the art gallery. Its a free event - a kind of soft opening preview for the festival. I'm planning to be there so say hi if you make it. #NZIFF www.nziff.co.nz/2025/otepoti...

Whānau Mārama: DFS Sneak Peek

Making a list of film festival films for Dunedin / Ōtepoti It is still worth going to see on the big screens. I somehow missed this one before. #NZIFF Werckmeister Harmonies - Dir: Bela Tar, Agnes Hranitsky. Hungary/ France/ Germany / Italy 2000 | 145 mins.

It’s that time again. May actually try and get to one or two this year. I haven’t been to one since COVID started.

Listening to this song from the film Humanist Vampire Seeking Consenting Suicidal Person. Despite the title it is dark comedy and quite charming. #nziff Never heard of Brenda Lee before so good to find this

Love this (abridged):

At the sold-out opening screening Ogilvie roused the troops to stage a coup d’état against the streaming services that are colonising our minds and imaginations. He demanded that we keep production here, and take pride in our own work that is as good as anything that trickles down from the Northern Hemisphere. Productions that celebrate local stories kick the teeth out of algorithmic blancmange any day.

My last movie for #nziff was a blast although it felt like i was the only one in the cinema who wanted to leap up and help Peter with his dance moves. I was gone from Aus for the much of the story but they did have a sequence in a British Columbia rain forest clearing where the band played a stop the logging popup gig… we’d seen a show in Vancouver then hot footed it and was last car on ferry at midnight to drive thru the night (lucky - T couldnt see the state of the road 🤓) #midnightoil

Promo for Midnight Oil documentary with the title in big narrow yellow san serif and a black n white montage of the band members in action mode.

@rakugo yes! I saw it in Welly last weekend. I almost didn’t go because i had so much work to do but I went and Im glad i did… such depth and it felt like a therapy session that lifted the weight for a bit, eased the pulse... plus #piano #hands #studio #nziff 🎹❤️

Dragged myself out on a Friday night (gasp) for the #Eno doco… wowza. I should have taken notes. Now i need an #Omnichord. I’ve always liked those #ObliqueStrategies ideas - my colleagues not always so enamoured.🤓 #NZIFF

Promo image for a documentary. It has “Eno” in big sans serif top left quarter and then a collage of much smaller images of the subject. There is quite a bit of white space too.

Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers - Runnin' Down A Dream

(side note - this song featured in a #GrandTheftAuto soundtrack, and this week I saw the doco #GrandTheftHamlet in #NZIFF about rehearsing and performing Shakespeare's play Hamlet entirely within a GrandTheft Auto video game. Fun stuff)

@sumisu3 there are many gems lurking in NZ music vaults 😉 and some that escaped without musical acknowledgement from overseas. I suspect a fair number of overseas bands have covered or been influenced by Kiwi songs and bands too. Make sure to catch #NZIFF film Head South when it's on general release

Eerie song from tonight's #NZIFF film.

Sloppy Jane ft. Phoebe Bridgers - - Claw Machine (from "I Saw the TV Glow")

I saw the tv glow, I
I am in the eighth grade
Sending grown men grainy photos of my rib cage
My bedroom has no doors so
I can never close them
I paint the ceiling black so I don’t notice when my eyes are open

my heart is like a claw machine
Its only function is to reach
It can’t hold on to anything
