I'm sorry, but how were they a leader? I mean, were they ever a leader in anything other than having the biggest #SocialNetwork at some point?

Yeah they did #VR stuff, with #HorizonWorlds, but Horizon never really took off, and I'm not really sure that the #Occulus counts when it's an aquihire and #JohnCarmack left after they wouldn't let him keep expanding. Same with #AI, they did some stuff, but I don't remember it ever being like, the "big thing in AI".

I'm pretty sure #Zuckerburg got richer than his parents off of this #SocialNetworking thing, realized that having a bunch of users doesn't actually pay a bunch of money, and is now struggling to figure out how to turn those financed assets into profits.

Hey folks, I finally got around to exploring the quest store and there was one game from YEARS ago that I really wanted to play - unfortunately I don't remember the name.

It's scifi, set in a space station iirc. Its zero gravity so you need to float around and later in the game discover some alien growths. I wonder if it's just too old and not compatible with newer headsets. More exploration and maybe puzzle solving. Any ideas?

I hate how many outlets are saying VR is dead because people aren't buying mobile ports of VR Games on the Meta store. Like honestly. I've never bought a single one on there because I don't like vendor lock in. And because it's shit to begin with. Steam is way better at a base level.

@Neblib @jenbanim not who you're talking to but thought I'd chime in. The easiest and cheapest way into VR is the Quest 2. It supports standalone and PCVR both wired and wireless and gives a good experience in both cases. There are better options but they're all 2-3x the price and I don't think they're 2-3x better.

Great article! My only recent experience with #VirtualReality was a 30 second trip in my nephew's #Occulus (30 seaonds was long enough). The graphics quality and general feel of the place made me #nostalgic for the Virtual Reality Experience at the #MallOfAmerica back when that place was still new and exciting (late 1980s).
