The Great Orion Nebula (M42)🌌. The Orion constellation, is one of the brightest and closest star-forming regions to Earth. It spans about 24 light-years across and is approximately 1,344 light-years away. The Nebula is notable for it's vibrant colors and the presence of young stars, making it a key area of study in astrophysics.
I Captured it last Monday just before my surgery, processed with Siril. I removed some Stars on the 2nd picture :). Only 25 stacked exposures at 100s each—
proof that even short sessions can create something magical.

Finally got around to processing M42 in narrowband from February. My flats routine wasn't very good this time, so this is heavily cropped. Also had some mechanical issues that I didn't notice since I was trying out a homebrew autofocuser, so some stars are a little long. On top of all that, some stars in the center are overcooked so, more to do next year!

Color is H-alpha, Sii, and Oiii mapped to their actual wavelength so this is "true color"...sort of.

The Orion nebula (M42). There is a bright center of a dusty cloud where stars are concentrated. Spreading from that center are red and white clouds that thin out further from the core. One half of the clouds are a dark brown-red as if they are less illuminated than the other half. Off to the left is another connected-but-separate patch of red dust.

I think I hit the sweet spot for long exposure. Not too smudgey but lots of color/depth. Mind you this was taken with a manual dob and a smartphone. 🥴

Testing out my new #Vespera2 smart telescope, and I’m pretty pleased with this image of M42 #OrionNebula this evening through pretty hazy skies! #astrophotography

Messier 42 also known as the Orion Nebula a region of swirling red gases where stars are born. You can just see the three trapezium stars at its core.
In order: Large Magellanic Cloud, Orion Nebula and Carina Nebula.
Still quite a bit of light pollution here, but these were more practice with my longer lens

The Orion Nebula is probably well known to most people, it's so bright that it's visible to the naked eye. However, there's so much more going on in that region of space. Also visible in this image is De Mairan's Nebula, Running Man Nebula, Horsehead Nebula, Flame Nebula and Barnard's Loop
