Apple’s design team has completely lost it!
I removed the PreviewApp, but PDF Expert by Readdle hijacks all PDFs when opened, instead of using the FilesApp, as you suggested.
I’m also wary of PDF Expert due to its AI features I did not ask for, as well as the connections it makes to Facebook and other invasive trackers, every time you open the App.

PDF Expert vor ca. 10 Jahren mal mit Einmalkauf erworben - immer noch sehr gut, besonders, wenn mit Pencil auf dem iPad Anmerkungen vorgenommen werden sollen.
Durch die Nextcloud hat zwar die Notwendigkeit des WebDAV-Servers abgenommen, funktioniert aber immer noch problemlos:

Hi Fedi friends! In the procrss of freeing myself from Adobe monopoly, I’m looking for alternatives to the softwares I use the most. The main gap I’m encountering is with #Acrobat.
I’ve tried #PDFgear and #PDFexpert but none of them have the option to create and edit forms - they only offer the option to fill them. A nice to have would also be the possibility to set a specific initial view.
Are you aware of any software doing so, out there?

Ugh I wish I could save tab groups in #PDFExpert or have the app reopen my last-opened tabs when I open the program.
EDIT: WAIT IT DOES THAT! It's an opaquely named setting: 'PDF Expert opens with: All windows from last session.'
I use PDF Expert on #iOS, #iPadOS, and #macOS, mostly because it lets me perform certain kinds of edits that aren’t possible on Apple’s default #PDF reader, it works well, and it was “buy once”. However, it’s now offering some type of “Premium” subscription service and is beta-testing #AI “enhancements” —two red flags. So maybe skip this app until its developers end their dubious flirtations with the latest user-hostile trends and get back to just making solid software?

@preshit #Readdle has many high quality products for many years. I stopped use the #Documents app and the Scanner app since Apple has the similar function copied. However, I still have #PDFExpert installed on all my i-devices. That app is solid as hell.
