the gigantic palm #TahinaSpectabilis was only discovered in 2007. it grows exclusively in a small area on Madagascar. only about 90 specimens exist. plus 3 in the #Palmetum park on #Tenerife. its leaves are very rigid, like thin wood.

I went to a former land fill just off the coast of #SantaCruz de #Tenerife. Someone topped it with fertile soil and turned this old dump into a beautiful garden hill called #Palmetum.
It now gives home to hundreds of #palms from all over the world. Since I'm quite passionate about these plants I made many photos. Here are some of their alien fruits. #kphoto #palms

Another view from the Palmetum botanical gardens on Tenerife for #MeerMittwoch this week. This fabulous hilltop area houses palms and other tropical plants from around the world, arranged in geographical groupings, and has plenty of seating areas offering views out to sea too.

We're on a hill overlooking the sea. It's a nearly-cloudless day, bright and sunny with the sense of heat around tempered slightly by a slight breeze coming off the water. The sky is a deep blue and the sea reflects that, appearing barely rippled from this height above. The view to the water and horizon is framed by plants and trees around us. Large palm fronds are on the left of view and directly in front, low down, below the lip of the hill. Tall, thin trees with full, deep green leaves are to the right. Bushes at our feet, some shaded by the palms, have tones of browns and reds suggesting autumnal colours amongst the more tropical plants around.

For #TravelTuesday a view I adored from the Palmetum botanical gardens on Tenerife recently. The gardens rate as my favourite of their kind I've visited but I was particularly taken with this view that included the oil refinery just south west of Santa Cruz de Tenerife for the contrast it made against the natural beauty around. I'm a big fan of industrialised sites.

A scene of almost tropical brightness and colouring. We're on a hill, part of a wide promontory jutting out from the land which we can see below and to the right in lower hills curving around a wide bay of deep blue water. From this distance the water appears nearly flat, barely rippled with blue shadows and reflecting the banks of puffy white clouds on the horizon. This hill we're on is part of a tropical garden specialising in palms, a few of which are framing the view on the right near us, but in front it's mostly smaller plants and bushes in shades of bright yellow-greens and darker red-greens with well-trimmed grass visible between. The land to the right contrasts starkly, filled as it is with a sprawling oil refinery, but one with bright colours on silos and towers lifting the industrialised sight to something seemingly more friendly and suitable for the scene. It feels very warm with just a hint of refreshing sea air coming up from below.
