Die mehrfache Ausflugs-Umplanung war richtig und letztlich gehen wir auf einer schönen Promenade am Hafen entlang bis zum Auditorium. Dazu ist das Wetter gut geeignet. It's a bright, sunny day with barely a cloud in the sky. The sun is somewhere off to our right turning the piercing blue sky white with its glow. We're standing at the edge of the sea, itself nearly flat with just a small roll of a wave cresting nearing the shoreline and the foamy remains of another pooling in the hollows of the lumpy, rocky ground that makes up the beach here. We're raised up a little, standing on a promenade with a low, thick wall curving to follow the coast except immediately to the left where we can see a higher, rounded wall of stone; a small castle's curved, defending wall in dark stone with marks up its height showing where the sea has in the past hit it and deposited scum and wear on its surface. Beyond the fortified walls is an impressive sight. A modern piece of architecture in white stands partly hidden by the wall just left of centre as we stare out. This building has overlapping, cut-off cylinders of smooth white walls at its core but extending from its rear nearest the sea and arching dozens of metres over the top and around to the front there is a thin but wide claw of material. The abstract shape in bright white forms a fabulous contrast against the old, stone defences nearer us. It's quiet here, but for the lapping of waves in the rock pools, and it feels warm in the sun.

For #TravelTuesday a view I adored from the Palmetum botanical gardens on Tenerife recently. The gardens rate as my favourite of their kind I've visited but I was particularly taken with this view that included the oil refinery just south west of Santa Cruz de Tenerife for the contrast it made against the natural beauty around. I'm a big fan of industrialised sites.

A scene of almost tropical brightness and colouring. We're on a hill, part of a wide promontory jutting out from the land which we can see below and to the right in lower hills curving around a wide bay of deep blue water. From this distance the water appears nearly flat, barely rippled with blue shadows and reflecting the banks of puffy white clouds on the horizon. This hill we're on is part of a tropical garden specialising in palms, a few of which are framing the view on the right near us, but in front it's mostly smaller plants and bushes in shades of bright yellow-greens and darker red-greens with well-trimmed grass visible between. The land to the right contrasts starkly, filled as it is with a sprawling oil refinery, but one with bright colours on silos and towers lifting the industrialised sight to something seemingly more friendly and suitable for the scene. It feels very warm with just a hint of refreshing sea air coming up from below.

San Cristóbal de La Laguna
San Cristóbal de La Laguna, en la isla de Tenerife, tiene una rica historia toponímica. El nombre aborigen guanche de la zona era Aguere, que significa "la laguna"12. Este nombre hace referencia a la antigua laguna que existía en el lugar antes de la fundación de la ciudad en 1497.
