After four days travel, today we again reached the Yaro River and ferried across to Son, where Lady Vaeol and the others brought me to our company’s house. Then they left, doubtlessly to make report. I found much awaiting me and have had little time until now.

The men welcomed me back gladly, but were also mightily upset. They told word that we are to leave Son in two days’ time, when we will be taken to another place named Khabarat. At that name my ears perked. I bade them not to worry, for I told I had heard of this other city, and furthermore there are elfgates and maybe even a way back home. This got their eager interest, and I bade them continue readiness for travel, which apparently will be by boat. I then spoke with Thalaes our steward, who confirmed the word had come from Princess Zhasael who heads the Matrons’ Senate (and is Lady Vaeol’s mother). Lady Vaeol doubtlessly was even then receiving the same word, for which I thanked him.

In the beginning of _A Castrovel Adventure: Part 1_, Brand gets a chance to talk with a couple Korasha about daily life in a remote rural settlement...

Thanks to Lady Vaeol’s tongue-spell, I had a lively talk with a couple older Korasha fellows, farmers and hunters with thinning pates and fully, bushy beards, who had come for a drink. They kept calling me Master Elf, seemingly due to my height, and treated me to some cups of bragget. They spoke of their children, some who dwell here or have gone elsewhere, some who even now serve in the militia, and one who has gone off to a war in some stead called Valmae-yana, which was the first I’ve heard. They spoke of their wives, to whom they are beholden though unafraid of voicing complaint, for much of their speech regarded arguments with their mistresses. Of Son they had respectful word, though I got hint they do not misgive the city lying several days away, which leaves these villagers to their own business. After so much strange and wonderful over these weeks, it was refreshing just to listen to common folk. If I shut my eyes, I could see them as a couple old farmers sitting in a tavern back where I grew up.

What’s your favorite set of die?

I don’t have them with me, but for me it’s a pair of blue stone die. I don’t love them because they’re hefty and pretty (which they are); but because I am banned from using them.

The die are infamously hungry for players blood, and when using them critical hits seem to flow like water. After they were involved in a second TPK involving rank mooks stomping the party through intense rolls, they were banned.

Later, a new player joined us. In the middle of combat he noticed I had the set of die off to the side. He asked why, and so as I explained the story I picked them up and began rolling them. A hit and two criticals later, a more senior player snatched them up and angrilyput them back with a “THIS is why Null isn’t allowed to use them!”

Since then I’ve only brought them out to play in a rare hard boss fights where I think the players will struggle, and they were snatched as soon as things went south. They’ve become accustomed to seeing them and knowing that they’re about to get rocked.

Its fun to have dice that make the party pause and are a byword for evil.

Added the Mister Potato Head Beholder to my collection today. 😁 His mustache reminds me of Ted Lasso!

Seven Beholder miniatures in a row, with a Mr. Potato Head Beholder at center. The little Beholder to the left of it is an old Grenadier miniature from the early 80s that was one of the first Beholder figures sold.

Illustrated a lizard taking a stroll, totally nothing weird going on here, carry on.

digital illustration depicting an anthropomorphic tegu(lizard breed), with pale scales, the lizardperson is wearing a dark steel armor made oout of entwined, almost vine-like pieces, and is showing magenta glow on their left arm, the torse and the eyes. They appear to be walking around in some sort of underground old temple, where its been returned to life.

Back in the beginning of _A Castrovel Adventure: Part 1_, Lady Vaeol recounts her version of the record-crystal of the ancient alliance between the Lashunta and the Azlanti Empire...

It behappened that, while the reign of Queen Aheale in the Third Yearthousand, an Aslanta trucebode came to Son. A peacebond of friendship was sealed between Son and the Aslanta Empire (which word upholds Brand’s claim of Aslanta being a folk moreso than the kind), where the Aslanta swore faith to Son in trade for right to use the Qabarat Worldgate. This catches mind for many reasons, unleastly for all happened within the Age of the Warrior-Queens, wherein many loremasters reckon the history whimsical. It also happened merely a few hundred years ere fall of Son’s eldest empire, but also more inthriftily ere Qabarat’s founding by the Elves, which means the Worldgate had stood even ereward. From what I understand, Son once claimed rulership of the whole Yaro Strath, from the Shattersea shore out to the Retaea Moorlands. So it makes good thought that Son in that age had ruled the Gatestead where Qabarat now stands, and so that the Aslanta would deal with Son. Mindfully, the Hall of Stars was not founded until almost three thousand years later. Master Nifa put forth that this log might be brought from Son, as were once all things linked to starlore.
