Castrovel Inspirational Pic of the Week - 2 years ago
Artist: J. Allen St. John (1872 - 1957), from ERB's _At the Earth's Core_
I like this pic, because the next major stop on Lady Vaeol's itinerary will be Ofu-Laubu (aka Laubu Mesa in PF2E and Starfinder Canon), home of the ~Thakasa~ - flying pterasaurian steeds, giving this city a preeminent advante over any other city on Castrovel.
Which begs the question of how the Laubu Lashunta tamed the Thakasa to begin with. Written history came to this part of the world with the Elves, when they established a colony on Ofu-Laubu and built an Aiudara Elfgate, connecting it back to Qabarat and Sovyrian. I like to think the Elves found Lashunta already dwelling there, and their Skyriders already riding their lizardwing steeds. It would have made an interesting alliance, between Elves and these flying Northern Lashuntal.
Which begs the question: why did the Elves fare so far north to begin with??

![Lashunta Phrase from Chapter 17
~A mae, le Vaeol-Ile uthe mazhae-vireve o eisrye Kaureve,~
Narrative Translation: “Mother, she is Lady Vaeol the high matron’s daughter, and Kaure’s wifemate.”
Context: Lady Vaeol, while visiting Thiahe Kaure’s sister, gets introduced to their mother Isye. The
introduction is an attempt to defray a tension-fraught meeting, since Isye had banished Kaure (Vaeol’s
wifemate) from their hometree for being Korasha, and Kaure has refused to seek reconciliation.
Literal Translation:
“[voc] [mother], [she/they] [Vaeol]-[lady] [daughter] [high matron:(possess)] [conjunctional clause]
[wifemate] [Kaure:(possess)].”
Breakdown:
- A mae - vocative address of ~Mae~ (feminine): mother
- Le (fem): 3rd-person feminine pronoun; she; they. A separate verbal copula is not required, since
the gender agreement with the following appositive effectively serves the same function.
- Vaeol-Ile (fem): Lady Vaeol; proper name: Vaeol + generic-polite title: ~Ile~ (fem): lady;
upper-class female
- Uthe (fem): daughter; female child. Occurs as an appositive to ~Vaeol-Ile~.
- Mazhe-vireve - feminine possessive of ~Mazhe-Vire~ (fem): high/first matron; elected executive
- 0: secondary clause-marker, used as emphatic appositive conjunction. Effectively, it functions as
a verbal comma.
- Eisrye (fem): wifemate; female spouse under personal oath
- Kaureve - feminine possessive of proper name: Kaure.](https://files.mastodon.social/cache/media_attachments/files/115/675/023/581/678/373/small/505439782f96d773.png)
