I am not a poet of any kind and when Yvonne told me that such a thing existed I thought it was a bit dodgy. It was after she invited me to an event that I changed my mind.
There is talent out there, male and female, young and old. That took me by surprise.
As a poet I’ve recently got the feeling that a big part of doing this is collecting new stages to perform on and new potential audiences.
So thanks to everyone who hung around for my set at SHMUFEST, thanks to every wonderful performer I’m lucky enough to share a stage with and thanks to everyone who organises and provides places to perform.

An amazing night at the Loud Poets Northern Heat Poetry Slam. Made it through to the second round, which is better than last year, and got some amazing feedback. Also got to enjoy an amazing array of other hugely talented performers. Great stuff.

EDWINA WOWS AUDIENCE WITH HER STRONG VOICE AND EMOTION
Edwina Blush is a well-known Tasmanian singer who packs her numbers with emotion. An accomplished performed whose reperoitre spans jazz to pop to folk, Edwina was another of the local performers at this year's Tasmanian Poetry Festival tribute concert to Joni Mitchell and Leonard Cohen.
The concerts are annual events held in Launceston, the largest city on Tasmania's northern coast. Last Year's tribute concert was to Bib Dylan and Joan Baez.

LOCAL MUSICIANS SHINE AT LAUNCESTON TRIBUTE CONCERT
Tasmanian singer-songwriter, Lucie Thorne, performed three Joni Mitchell numbers—A Case of You, Night Ride Home and Amelia, at this year’s Tasmanian Poetry Festival tribute concert to Joni Mitchell and Leonard Cohen.
The tribute concerts form part of the Tasmanian Poetry Festival’s annual program of activities that includes performance (‘slam’) poetry events in diffrent Tasmanian towns and cities. When asked why a slam poetry organisation was organising music concerts, one of the organisers, local Launceston performance poet Yvonne Gluyas, said “…songwriters are poets. The artists who are the focus of the tribute concert might put poetry to music, however it is still poetry even though it is sung and not recited.”
