A building with black walls and window graphics has a recessed entrance where the inner walls, ceiling, and double doors are painted a bright yellow colour. The floor tiles feature a black and white geometric pattern. This entrance to a defunct nightclub is rundown and deteriorating. A padlock and chain keep the doors secure. There is a small key safe near the ground on the right. Friar Street, Reading, UK. Photo by Gearóid Burke.

Underneath a pedestrian plaza between brutalist buildings is a two lane road. From above, the worn lane markings seem to read "Way Car" and "Out Park." Double-yellow lines and brightly-painted bollards line the thoroughfare. San Francisco Libre Walk, Reading, Berkshire, UK. Photo by Gearóid Burke.

The rather grand Waterstones in Reading (it used to be a church)

#Books #Bookshops #Bookstores #Retail #ReadingUK #Photography

A monotone photograph of an interior with a bifurcated staircase and a domed ceiling. At the top of the stairs, through a wide arch, a sign reads "children's bookshop." On the ground floor, bookshelves can be seen through the bannisters. The building was formerly Broad Street Independent Chapel. Waterstones bookshop, Broad Street, Reading, Berkshire, UK. Walk This Way

#Signage #Signs #Parking #StreetArt #ReadingUK #Photography

A pictogram of a human figure walking in profile, painted in bright yellow on a green background. There are yellow stripes along the side, with a red-painted surface on one side, and bare concrete on the other. "Fire exit" is written in two lines underneath the figure. The front of a pink vehicle, a red wall, and yellow safety barriers can also be seen, plus actual people walking in the distance. Except they're upside down, because I rotated the image 180˚ for some reason. This is the wayfinding system painted on the floor of a multi-storey car park. Broad Street Mall, Düsseldorf Way, Reading, Berkshire. Photo by Gearóid Burke.

@ShadSterling @mcc

I live in Reading. A school friend once sent me a postcard from holiday in the USA, and forgot to put "UK" on the address.

Eight months later, it arrived, with postmarks from four different places in the US, and two in Canada...

A monotone image with a gravelly surface divided in two horizontally by a cement strip. The top half has a pattern of raised squares, with six squares (in three rows of two) painted white. This is a close-up of curiously subtle parking bay indicators. Brook Drive, Green Park, Reading, Berkshire, UK. There's a fireworks display somewhere down near Reading Town stadium (Norcot roundabout) that's been throwing absolutely everything at the sky for at least 10 minutes. Like, multiple bursts a second kind of everything.

More enthusiasm than art, but the enthusiasm is entirely unrestrained.

Another look inside this brutalist multi-storey car park before it's demolished.

A photograph in which a wintery urban landscape is seen through six irregular-octagon-shaped openings in a wall. The ceiling and the top portion of the concrete had been painted white some time ago, the lower half and the floor were painted red. Two bright yellow horizontal metal bars of a barrier cross the lower portion of the image. These are the unglazed windows of a cast-concrete parking structure.
