Jukebox Friday Night for October 17 has the double-wide theme of "Jazz And Blues".

I'll start with some Piedmont Blues (southeastern US finger-picking guitar) from Blind Boy Fuller.

Blind Boy Fuller, "I'm a Rattlesnakin' Daddy" (New York City, 23 July 1935)

Farming, food security, and farm labor are just part of the list of issues addressed by UVA programs. The impact is huge for Charlottesville, but also for Virginia and the nation.

Back Country Blues by Brownie McGhee & Sonny Terry, released on Savoy in 1958.

Walter Brown "Brownie" McGhee (November 30, 1915 – February 16, 1996)[1] was an American folk and Piedmont blues singer and guitarist, best known for his collaboration with the harmonica player Sonny Terry.

Saunders Terrell (October 24, 1911 – March 11, 1986), known as Sonny Terry, was an American Piedmont blues and folk musician, who was known for his energetic blues harmonica style, which frequently included vocal whoops and hollers and occasionally imitations of trains and fox hunts. - Wikipedia

A lot of good blues players had the ear but not the sight. This player is more mysterious than many, with very little background information available –

Blind Blake, "Diddie Wah Diddie" (1929)

"There's a great big mystery
And it sure is worrying me
This Diddie Wa Diddie, this Diddie Wa Diddie
I wish somebody would tell me what Diddie Wa Diddie means …"

Going for Piedmont blues from the East Coast of the States, and another blind player who could really play –

Blind Boy Fuller, "I'm A Rattlesnakin' Daddy" (1935)

Watch out for the double entendres:
"I can rattle to the left, rattle to the right
My woman said, "I believe my rattlesnake daddy can rattle all night!" …"

I was sad to hear of the recent passing of #PhilWiggins, just hours before what would've been his 70th birthday. He'll be forever linked with his musical partner of 32 years, the late #JohnCephas. Together, Cephas & Wiggins won numerous awards, toured the world, and were the perfect ambassadors of #PiedmontBlues. If you've never heard Phil Wiggins play, check him out tearing up the #harmonica on this song. #blues m.youtube.com/watch?v=vcsWhOmR

Festive, frivolous – the place is going to heat up with all the hollering –

Mississippi John Hurt, "Hot Time In The Old Town Tonight" (1966)

A popular song first copyrighted in 1896, and recorded by Bessie Smith, Louis Armstrong, and Leon Redbone among others. I prefer the simple lyrics and beautiful picking of Mississippi John Hurt's version.

Tonight is the Blues Jam at the #BlueNoteGrill. Conspired to put together a good set. #Durham is the home of the #PiedmontBlues. Love my town!

@rachelcholst @americana ... and on my fourth day on Mastodon, I discovered there are things called groups, thanks to @rachelcholst creating one...
Have to go now, but will browse more later, looking for #oldtime #stringband #mandolin #clawhammer #banjo and not finding a lot. #blues may be too ambiguous; #piedmontblues and #deltablues perhaps lost in #FolkMusic
#ukulele and #Irishmusic appear healthy
#Scottishmusic not so much...
#ragtime rare
