#PolyTerra

Here’s my build of the Bambu Lab Marble Run 003 kit. It’s printed in Polymaker PolyTerra PLA filament. It looks great, but it seems to be a bit too rough and the motor isn’t able to run the machine.

The PolyTerra limestone marble is a pain to work with. It's coarse. The filament on the spool feels grainy like whole wheat spaghetti. Adding fuzzy skin to the model was almost redundant.

The slate grey marble is much better. Smoother and better behaved. I made a bowl (not pictured) a couple of days ago in slate grey and it came out nice and smooth. I did have some issues with overhang, but that was the model, not the filament.

I'm working on the mechanical parts of the Birthday Tower now. The tower will be a 2 meter tall (6 ft. 8 in.) wooden beam with LEDs in front and speakers at top and bottom. This is the top cap attached to a cutoff end of the beam.

I had fun with textures here. Generic silk copper PLA at 0.05mm layer height and PolyMaker PolyTerra limestone marble PLA with fuzzy skin and 0.2mm layers. The back cover is PolyTerra slate grey marble.

An assembly. At the bottom, a short unpainted pine board on end, with a black aluminum channel for LEDs embedded in the front side. At the top, a printed cap with slots for a speaker. The cap has a rough texture and a sort of art deco tower shape. Holding them together is a horizontal band of shiny copper printed PLA with a bullet shape. The same assembly, back side. On this side, a channel is seen cut in the board. And the cap has a cover plate in a contrasting color of marble PLA, slate grey, with four hex cap machine screws holding it on.

There is some kind of blue smudge on the board. Various bits of 3D printing tools and detritus are out of focus in the background.

Really unsure about this #PolyTerra #PLA filament. The flow / extrusion seems to be all over the place with both printers. Going to give it a round of drying and another try tomorrow.

So.

I'm now the proud owner of 2x2,5kg #PolyTerra (Cotton White) PLA for 30€ (6€ per Kilo). Had to re-spool it onto reasonable 1kg spools and for 6€, it's more than worth it!

Somehow managed to loose two rolls of filament during my house move! Have ordered a couple of rolls of to get me again.

Lots of little temporary things for the house will be coming this week while we decide on longer term additions to our home!

Tada! Nice spool holder that fits perfectly into the weird shelving system that I inherited from my landlord. Can even hold a couple of reels!

A spool of Polyterra PLa mounted on a 3d printed spool holder that is attached to slots on a shelving system.
