ESO has released images of the stellar nursery cataloged as RCW 38, obtained using the VISTA InfraRed CAMera (VIRCAM) mounted on its Visible and Infrared Survey Telescope for Astronomy (VISTA) in Chile. It was obtained as part of the VISTA Variables in the Vía Láctea (VVV) astronomical survey, which produced the most detailed infrared map of the Milky Way.

An article published in "The Astrophysical Journal" reports the results of the study of a group of protoplanetary disks with an age of up to 30 million years, even 10 times older than current models of planet formation predict. A team of researchers used observations conducted with the James Webb space telescope of the cluster NGC 346, in the Small Magellanic Cloud.

An article published in "The Astronomical Journal" reports the discovery of areas of remarkable star formation in the molecular clouds known as Digel Clouds, more than 58,000 light-years from the center of the Milky Way. A team of researchers used the James Webb Space Telescope to obtain the detail needed to recognize protostars, outflows and jets of material, and nebular structures.

Nebulae are areas of space that are rich in the raw material needed to form new stars.

Under the influence of gravity, parts of these molecular clouds collapse until they coalesce into #Protostars, surrounded by spinning discs of leftover gas and dust.

Some famous nebulae known for star formation include the Orion Nebula and the Eagle Nebula, with its iconic Pillars of Creation.
