"All Hewlett-Packard pocket calculators feature RPN logic- the most sensible logic system a pocket calculator can have!"
This beautiful short introduction to #RPN (Reverse Polish Notation) is from Hewlett-Packard's Pocket Calculator Buyer's Guide printed in 1975.
The MINUTEMAN * 6X was an early calculator by #Commodore from 1974, the company that was later famous for legendary computers like the Commodore 64 and the #Amiga family. The #MINUTEMAN supported #RPN (reverse Polish notation), had a 2-level stack and arithmetics for integers and currency values.

https://www.mirai-ii.co.jp/products/soft/whp/

Of those, my favourite is the HP-15C emulator. The vibe I get from this app on my iPhone is almost like when I use my original, 1980s HP-15C. And that is a high praise for this app, considering the massive difference between HP's venerable tactile keys and the iPhone's vapid touch screen. Oh, and, it is free!
The original HP-15C from 1982 was my first programmable #RPN #calculator. I bought mine in 1985. By then, I was an upper-level #EE student, with a few years of #programming experience in a handful of languages from different paradigms, including assembly. Yet, I found keystroke programming on the HP-15C to be a challenge.
This little machine could store only 500 keystrokes in its memory, and the instructions were shown as numeric codes. It was rather like programming on the ET-3400 or the KIM-1—it was a right mess. Still, the HP-15C was the best engineer's pocket computer I could afford then, and I thoroughly enjoyed learning to use it well.
Not long after, when I entered the industry, EEs were all using MATLAB on Sun workstations, and our RPN calculators mostly sat on the desk. That was the beginning of the end for calculators. Yet, to this day, the HP-15C remains my all-time favourite RPN calculator.
PS—Those who are curious about programming the various HP RPN calculators may read my article on the subject.

@georgetakei I’m even more of a villain. I’m still hoarding and using my iPods.
It gets worse. I have a collection of HP #RPN calculators. I have a couple of HP-48GXs that I use as daily drivers.
Incalculable damage to “the economy”. 😱

Another Rust Rabbit Hole blog entry! This time I wrote an RPN calculator and learned a bunch chasing down leads to try to make it more robust. Feedback welcomed, as always.
Moravia (the current owner of the HP calculator IP) has announced they'll be making a Collector's Edition of the 16C RPN programmer's calculator next year:

HP made dozens of scientific and business calculators over the years, but they only ever made one programmer's calculator, so I don't expect this one to stick around for very long.
Courtesy of Eric Rechlin of hpcalc.org, now you can watch a fat ugly guy who says "um" far too often, at HHC 2025 talking about and demonstrating the forthcoming Nonpareil II microcode-level simulation of various HP RPN calculators (currently HP-15C and HP-16C):

The audience really liked that the graphics is fully scalable, rather than only having integer multiple scaling of a bitmap, in the original Nonpareil.
