This is my favorite image from a group of RPPCs (real photo postcards) from Japan I purchased some time ago. It was likely printed in the early 1920s (though may have been taken earlier). The photographer and exact location are unknown.

For those who are unfamiliar, real photo postcards are "continuous-tone photographic images" printed directly onto postcard stock. A man crouches at the edge of a river or creek next to an early 20th century camera. A boy stands to one side and a pair of houses with wooden walls and grass/thatch roofs can be seen in the background.

Here's a "RPPC" (Real Photo Postcard) from my collection. For those who may not know, RPPCs are photographs that are reproduced by developing them onto photographic paper that is the size and weight of a postcard and has a postcard back. In the early 1900s, it was sometimes the most accessible way to acquire a photograph and had the bonus of being easily sharable.

This is an early image (taken sometime between 1907-1914) of a baseball game being played at a girls' school in Japan. Unfortunately I don't have much information on it beyond that.

In the foreground are two (probably) high school-age girls playing baseball. One is crouched as the catcher and has a catchers mitt (but no mask/padding), the other is the batter and has a bat held out in preparation for a pitch. The ground appears to be a sandy surface and there is no obvious base for 'home plate'. In the background (out of focus) is what looks like a small group of onlookers and a large, wooden building (perhaps the school?). It looks almost like a large barn.
