The 1944 Christmas song “Baby It’s Cold Outside” was written by Frank Loesser (1910-1969) to sing with his wife, Lynn Garland (1916-1986), at a party to tell guests that it was time to leave.

Sung here by Red Skelton (1913-1997) and Betty Garrett (1919-2011) in MGM’s “Neptune’s Daughter” (1949).

The variety show #OTR era from like a hundred hears ago or so was legendary. #JimmyFallon, #JimmyKimmel, and #StephenColbert (at least as he exists today) can't hold a candle to #DeanMartin, #JerryLewis, #RedSkelton, etc.

Good morning. 😴⏰☕

6 December 2024

Did you ever watch the Red Skelton Show? It was on the air for 20 years, 1951-1971, essentially my whole life through high school. I asked my wife last night if she ever heard of Freddy the Freeloader, and she said she hadn't, but she knew of the Red Skelton Show. Hmmm ... I don't know why I thought of Freddy the Freeloader, perhaps I was thinking of Ben and Charlie, they are free loaders after all. 😂 I lived with my grandparents at times while growing up, so the show was a staple along with The Lawrence Welk Show. It was a variety show, and Skelton was funny in clownish way. I recall he humbly ended each show my saying: "Good night and may God bless."

"The image shows a group of birds flying over a body of water. There are at least six birds in the air, with one bird in the foreground and other birds in the background. The water is calm and blue, and there is a sandy shore at the bottom of the image. The birds appear to be in motion, with their wings spread out. The lighting highlights the birds' feathers, giving them a golden hue. The image captures the dynamic movement of the birds in flight against a serene backdrop of water and sand. The photographer's watermark, "© Swede's Photographs," is visible in the bottom right corner.

It's a beautifully composed scene that conveys a sense of freedom and tranquility." - Copilot with edits
