Nottingham Forest plays today but I won’t know the score until after this has posted. I’m heading to my brother and his family this weekend to watch my nephew play basketball. (He’s 6!) I’m coming home Saturday afternoon and then back to my usual routine on Sunday.

Epookki on parhautta. Ja vielä eeppisempi epookki tapahtuu tietysti empire-tyyliin ja Jane Austenin aikakaudella, jolloin tapahtuu yhtä toista. Englannissa tätä kutsutaan regency-nimellä sijaishallitsijan aikakauden mukaan.

Luin taannoin Ian Mortimerin The Time Traveller's Guide to Regency Britain, joka tiivistää aika lailla mikä on aikakauden henki niin hyvässä kuin pahassa. Kun Austenin mieshahmot tunnustavat palavaa rakkauttaan, kyse ei ole pelkästä kirjaromantiikasta. Tosimiesihanteeseen on kuulunut tunteiden avoin ja palava näyttäminen. Sittemmin viktoriaanisen ajan hillitty järkimies pyyhkäisi tunteet pois paletista ja miehet opettelevat edelleen näyttämään tunteitaan uudelleen.

Haaveilin vuosia, että voisin pistää ylle empire-ajan vaatteet, eikä Bridgertonin katselu ainakaan helpottanut asiaa yhtään. Lopulta tajusin, että jos haluan vaatteet, on opeteltava ompelemaan. Kärsivällisen puolisoni avustuksella aloitin kyseisen käsityöharrastuksen alkutekijöistä ja manasin jokaista eksynyttä neulanpistoa neulakammoisena.

Hyperfokus yhdistettynä itsepäisyyteen on kätevää. Hyvät kaavat auttoivat ja vielä enemmän, kun joku tulkkasi ensin, mitä kaikki tarkoittaa. Ensin syntyi liivi, sitten paita, housut ja lopuksi hännystakki. Liivejä on jo 5 kpl, koska värejä tarvitaan ja kirpparin vanhat verhot muuttuvat niin helposti vaatteiksi. On ollut kivaa huomata, miten paljon voi tehdä kierrätysmateriaaleista - valkoisista lakanoista saa helposti paidan!

Vielä uupuu paljon ratsastussaappaista silinteriin, mutta kyllä tuolla kokoonpanolla jo kelpaa solatansseihin pyörähtää!

Men are always in demand during ball season. 🕺 a friend wanted me to take him to one of the historical balls I go to. And I was more than happy to dress him up and take him dancing. Here I have made both the outfits, and I took all the compliments that he got as my own.
A bit panicked sewing to finish my new tailcoat in time. But I’m very satisfied with the results.
