Sometimes I imagine my younger self coming to work with me, looking at everything we’ve created together. I can see him smiling so big, and it fills me with joy.

I was an A's fan because of grandma.
I spent a fair amount of time at grandma's house there in San Leandro. Grandma always had the game on TV. It seems like yesterday but also so long ago.
I have many fond memories of Ricky Henderson stealing bases. And Billy Martin kicking dirt on umps; grandma got a kick out of that. ;-)

Oh, and there was that time I was living in Davis, making pizza for my friends in preparation for watching the World Series, and mother nature had other plans. From the amplitude and frequency of the wave in the earth passing underneath my legs I knew the direction and could surmise the magnitude and distance of that quake. I called grandma right away at her condo in San Ramon; she was fine. Within minutes the phone lines were jammed and no furter calls were possible.

Anyway…
It's about a wrap for the Oakland Athletics at the Coliseum.
Thanks for the memories.

This made me cry and it's hard to listen to, but please do.

instagram.com/reel/C8kFR8jptlE Alex Rodriguez asked a question to #ReggieJackson. Jackson answered passionately.

Recently I saw #ReggieJackson at a sportscaster round table reminiscing about his experience as a black player in minor league baseball in the Jim Crow South. He was brutally honest about the #racism he faced. Legal #slavery may have ended, but practical slavery, the #colonization of ones’ own person, was still in full force. The only way he survived as a black player was because white team mates and managers stood up for him: “If he doesn't eat here, WE don't eat here.” I seem to recall that when my late father-in-law was stationed in the Jim Crow South, he was ordered not to eat in segregated towns that refused to serve black service members. #Solidarity with the #oppressed was the answer. #Oppression remains unchallenged as long as we are not willing to deny ourselves the benefits of membership in the #privileged #class.

Always remember. Even when you feel even a "little down" with these MAGA motherfucker revisionists. This is what it was, and it is what a lot of them want it to be again.

Reggie remembering from the heart, telling it like it was, overwhelming this baseball telecast.

This is very important. Not at all ancient history -- very much in living memory. When he says he could've been killed, it is not an exaggeration. #baseball #baseballhistory #blackhistory #reggiejackson #mlb #negroleagues #williemays

Reggie Jackson on Willie Mays' legacy & emotions of visiting Rickwood Field ⚾

“I walked into restaurants and they would point at me and say 'the n***** can't eat here.' I would go to a hotel and they said, 'the n***** can't stay here.' ”

The other commentator's statement is true: #ReggieJackson is giving a raw, deep history lesson here. And 1967 isn't that long ago.

Last night, Major League Baseball legend Reggie Jackson was asked in a Fox Sports show about how he felt about returning to Rickwood Field in Birmingham, Ala., for a Negro League tribute game. The 78-year-old, who started his MLB career in Birmingham in 1967, did not hold back. He told interviewer Alex Rodriguez about his experience of racial slurs and being denied entry to restaurants and hotels, in a city where the Ku Klux Klan was committing attacks of racial hatred. Here's the story from NBC, including the full video.

Very much worth reading. There are a lot of people who want to go back to this bullshit. Fuck them, and vote for people who find this treatment reprehensible.

#AlexRodriguez asked a question. #ReggieJackson answered it.

(Shouts to the producer and rest of the desk for staying out of Reggie’s way and just letting him talk. I doubt they expected this answer. But it’s a great few minutes of television.)
